"Everybody's A Comedian" is a new web series about an unknown comic who's having a hard time paying his bar tab, let alone his dues.
"Everybody's A Comedian" is a web series I've created with my friend and director, Greg Rowan. It's semi-autobiographical in that most of the story lines and characters come directly from my life as a fledgling actor/comedian. It's in the same vein as shows like "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Louie," and "Flight of the Conchords." I've written 8 episodes for the first season and would love to shoot and edit them all this summer. I plan on using as many Bay Area comedians and actors as I possibly can, some of whom will actually play themselves. Along with the web series itself, I plan on getting a lot of bonus footage of actors and comedians talking about their best and worst gigs, auditions, experiences, etc. The goal is to have a Season 1 DVD that not only includes a hilarious web series that gives you an honest look at the world of someone who gets paid (very little) to be funny but also to give you an introduction to a lot of amazing comedians and actors that you should start following. Which you will. Because they're awesome.
But we can't even shoot one episode without some help. I've made a lot of super cheap web videos and a couple of short films in my 68 years in this business and there's almost no way to make something like this for free. And since I get paid in beer and buffalo wings, I can't do it on my own. Hell, the trailer we shot that is a total of 83 seconds long cost me $4 a second. I don't know what that adds up to but it's on my credit card statement somewhere. The good news is I have access to some amazingly talented people who will be in front of and behind the camera on this project. And a lot of them are giving their services for free because they care about the project. The not-as-good-news is that renting locations, renting equipment, buying wardrobe, buying food each day, bribing cops, getting high quality drugs, paying for rehab, and hiring an attorney are not free.*
So pitch in whatever you can and let's make this happen, people!
*Some production costs are only listed for comedic effect.**
**Some production costs that are only listed for comedic effect will still be vital to the production and therefore will still need to be paid for.
