FREE THE MOWGLI'S!
In January of 2011 Los Angeles based band "The Mowgli's" entered a local recording studio to start work on the group of songs that would eventually make up the album "Sound the Drum". The Producer was a well known Australian singer-songwriter with a history of penning number one hits who simply goes by the name "Kevin". At first things seemed to be going well, conversations with the band lead friends and family to believe that all was smooth and trouble free.
On October 31st, however, it became obvious that it had all been an act. The band was planning to play "The Mowgli's' Happy Halloween Hippy Lovefest" in Los Angeles at The Roxy on Sunset Strip. Fans gathered and waited. And waited. By midnight it was apparent that something was HORRIBLY wrong. The band never showed.
For weeks LAPD, Fire Departments and National Guard Units scoured the area, local TV stations aired pleas from fans, friends and families. To no avail. Until December 15th, when the web-site KICKSTARTER reported that a video and fund-raising project had been posted featuring the band and, what appeared to be, footage of the producer Kevin. The video stated that if the band didn't raise $7,000 in the next 90 days then the World would not only never hear the album, but it was possible that nobody would ever hear from the band again, and if they DID...then there was a high chance that they'd all be working at a local Vegan Restaurant, full-time, that Kevin had opened as an "investment opportunity". The Mowgli's would be over.
After consulting with professional kidnapping experts it was decided by all parties concerned that the video should be left available and the KICKSTARTER program initiated to help raise the funds needed to pay the ransom and to see both the album, and the band, released.
