When are you guys planning on posting the conference videos for people who could not attend?
Creator Justin Greenwood on November 21, 2012
This is really a big step for the language. I'm looking forward to watching the videos and writing more code with D!
Creator John Loughran Colvin on November 21, 2012
Hooray! It's done :)
Creator Claude Xu on November 21, 2012
We made it. That is great! I hope everything will be smooth :)
Creator Hope Leman on November 21, 2012
@David Nadlinger Well, it was almost when I wrote that. Now it is time to say yay!!!!
Creator Dejan Lekic on November 20, 2012
We will even have enough for free coffee! \o/ ROFL
Creator David Nadlinger on November 20, 2012
@Hope Leman: Almost? ;)
Creator Hope Leman on November 20, 2012
Cool--almost there!
Creator Dejan Lekic on November 20, 2012
It is of the extreme importance to know the the exact date, time and place as far ahead as possible so we can plan the journey (talk with managers about the conference, book tickets, hotel, etc). I am sure both Walter and Andrei are aware of this fact.
Also, we should focus on bringing corporate attention so the next DConf can be backed (financially) by some company, or several companies...
Creator David Nadlinger on November 18, 2012
@Nicholas: Andrei said that you will be able to get a shirt in the EU as well, but Kickstarter might or might not be flexible enough to handle this: http://forum.dlang.org/thread/k63vi8$1qp0$1@digitalmars.com…
Creator Nicholas Londey on November 17, 2012
Any word on enabling the $50 reward for non-US residents? Is the intent something similar to what planetary annihilation did where you pledged something like $50 + $15 for international shipping?
Creator Hope Leman on November 16, 2012
Hi, Walter--wow. you are almost there. Cool!
Creator Walter Bright on November 2, 2012
I think the matter with "living in the US" is in regard to shipping the T-Shirt.
Creator David Piepgrass on November 2, 2012
This is weird, the $100 WEB SUPPORTER option says you have to reside in the U.S.! Might wanna fix that?
Creator Philippe Lavoie on October 28, 2012
I hope this conference will happen and good luck! I have been a fan of the D language for the last year and I have to say that your language is my weapon of choice for almost any programming task. As of today, I am still discovering features of the language and this just amazes me (especially all the metaprogramming ones), and this comes from somebody who has mastered a couple of other languages.
I think you guys have done a great job with the language specification, the standard library and the realization of the compiler. I know you have been busy these last years and I think I speak on behalf of all the community when I say: GOOD WORK AND THANK YOU. I'd also like to take this opportunity thank M. Alexandrescu's for taking the time to write an excellent book on D, which greatly facilitates the learning experience.
Although I cannot attend the conference, I wish to back it so that the conference gives D added visibility. I solicit anybody who wishes the same to donate.
Creator Robert Schadek on October 27, 2012
I hope the goal will be reached. Good luck. Personally, I hope I will have a change to attempt again.
Creator Jesse Phillips on October 24, 2012
@deadalnix, Kickstarter is not always about getting something back from the funding. But if you do want something that is what the rewards are for.
Creator Walter Bright on October 23, 2012
Unfair would entail not being upfront about what we offer in response for what we ask. It is entirely fair for us to not promise video recordings if we're not sure we can afford them, and it's equally fair if some people choose to not pledge because of that. So fairness has nothing to do with this. Poor quality recordings may actually do more harm than good, though of course we will allow people to make them. Bottom line we'll do the very best we can to ensure community access to everything the conference can offer, but there's no substitute to being there. Thanks.
Creator deadalnix on October 23, 2012
@Andrei ,
A lot of D people will not be able to participate. I think this is really important to provide a video recording for them. It feel like it is unfair to ask people for fund and not give them back anything in return. Maybe at least some amateurish recording can be done if not enough funds are raised ?
Creator Andrei Alexandrescu on October 22, 2012
@Alex: we didn't budget for video recordings, but if the campaign will go a bit over the goal we should be able to afford recordings.
Creator Alex Rønne Petersen on October 22, 2012
If the funding is successful and all, will there be video recordings of the talks?
Creator dicebot on October 22, 2012
Yay, looks like I am the first one here :)
Best luck in doing this! Can only wish I could have a look at conference itself though :(
