My Brooklyn Press and July 25th Screening in Brooklyn

Update #16 · Jun 27, 2012 · 3 comments

Hello Supporters,

We wanted to forward some great press My Brooklyn got during and right after the Brooklyn Film Festival, and to let you know about an upcoming screening hosted by Filmwax at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture on July 25th at 7pm.

Here are some links to press, including a long feature in The Huffington Post that connects the film to a recent report on the dramatic demographic change in Brooklyn over the past ten years:

Huffington Post

Urban Omnibus

The Local (New York Times blog)

We are also excited to announce that on July 25th at 7pm, the wonderful Brooklyn film series Filmwax is screening My Brooklyn as the inaugural film in the Brooklyn Reconstructed series, which will feature films about gentrification and development in Brooklyn. The screening is free and open to the public, so please come and forward the link to friends or colleagues you think would be interested in attending.

Finally, we are trying to use our Facebook page more efficiently and broadly -- please "like" the My Brooklyn page if you haven't already at :

Thanks as always for all your support and encouragement.

Best,

Kelly, Allison and Team My Brooklyn

My Brooklyn wins Audience Award at Brooklyn Film Festival!

Update #15 · Jun 11, 2012 · 1 comment

Last night My Brooklyn won the Audience Award at the Brooklyn Film Festival! Big thanks to all who came out and voted. And all you Kickstarter supporters should give yourselves a hearty pat on the back because without our editor, Kathryn Barnier, who you paid for, this would not have happened.

We had two sold out screenings at the festival, and discussions afterwards were rich and engaged. Audience members expressed concern and outrage over the events documented in the film, and many want to get involved to stay on top of planned developments and land use actions so we can have more of a say in the way our neighborhoods are changing.

It was a pleasure and honor to share the award with Su Friedrich, whose excellent film Gut Renovation is also about hypergentrification in Brooklyn.

Let's continue the conversation!

All the best,

Kelly & Allison

(And the rest of Team My Brooklyn)

My Brooklyn premiere at Brooklyn Film Festival!

Update #14 · May 9, 2012 · comment

My Brooklyn Supporters,

We are so pleased to let you know that My Brooklyn will premiere on Saturday, June 2, 7:30pm at the Brooklyn Film Festival (Brooklyn Heights Cinema). This will be the very first screening of the film -- hot off the press (we are still finishing as we write)! We hope you can join us. Tickets will likely sell out quickly so purchase now if you can. There is a second screening on the festival's Closing Night, June 10 at 8pm.

To purchase tickets, click here.

Q&A and discussion after each screening.

Thanks for all your support -- we couldn't have made it without you, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the screenings.

All the best,

Kelly, Allison, Fivel, Laurie & Lisa

My Brooklyn nearing rough cut!

Update #13 · Nov 23, 2011 · 2 comments

Hi Backers,

We have been working hard with Kathryn Barnier, the editor you all helped us get (thank you thank you thank you!). It's been a very productive time for My Brooklyn. Kelly has been working with Kathryn almost every day editing the film. Allison has been hard at work in Portland submitting FOIL requests and digging up some deep research on the real estate interests and politics behind the Downtown Brooklyn redevelopment plan. We are about to do one final shoot with Urban Planning scholar Stacey Sutton at Columbia University to fill in some final holes in the story. It's all coming together!

For those of you who are in New York, and like to be involved in the nitty gritty of filmmaking, we will be having a rough cut screening of My Brooklyn on Wednesday Dec. 14th at 7pm at the 92nd Street Y (in Tribeca). Please come and lend your thoughts and ideas. If you can rsvp we would appreciate it so we can keep track of who's coming (email kellyjmanderson@gmail.com)

Thanks, as always, for your continued and amazing support.

Kelly, Allison, Lisa, Fivel, Laurie

Editing Started this week!

Update #12 · Sep 14, 2011 · comment

Hi Backers,

Because of your support, we were able to start editing this week with our new editor, Kathryn Barnier. After only two days it's completely clear that this is EXACTLY what we needed to do to make this film great and get it out into the world. So thank you once again for helping make it happen.

And we haven't forgotten about your rewards! We are working with the designers and manufacturers now, and very soon we will be back in touch with you about the T-shirts, books, jewelry and other gifts we will be sending you.

Thanks again, and we will keep you posted on My Brooklyn's progress.

Best,

Kelly, Allison, Lisa, Fivel, Laurie

(Lenford Wickham, our wonderful Production Assistant, has returned to school at NYU Potytechnic Institute. But he's with us in spirit!)
