Update #12: Memphis Heat Continues Southern Swing
Friends! Due to overwhelming demand, Memphis Heat continues to showcase throughout the South! Next up: Birmingham, Atlanta, & Dallas in August! We appreciate all the support of documentary fans and wrestling fans who have enjoyed and given rave reviews to the film in Memphis, Jonesboro, Nashville, & Paducah! We roll Memphis Heat on through the South with shows at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham August 5th. Wrestling promoter/wrestler/author Jerry Jarrett will be in the house signing his fantastic new book The Best of Times. Memphis Heat opens in Atlanta August 5-7 for a big weekend at the Plaza Theater. Jerry Jarrett will also be at the Saturday and Sunday showings in Atlanta signing books. Memphis Heat then moves to the Texas Theater in Dallas August 12/13/14 for a documentary festival!
Finally we have set up a website to pre-order the amazingly loaded, almost 4 hour dvd of Memphis Heat: The True Story of Memphis Wrasslin'. Our editor Prichard Smith has done a phenomenal job of making this bonus dvd the greatest Christmas present ever (Of course, our Kickstarter supporters do not need to order their dvd copies as they will be sent automatically for your pledges! Thanks again!) The Memphis Heat dvd will be out by October 1st! www.memphis-heat.com
Update #11: Memphis Heat Moves to Nashville!
Hello, Kickstarter Memphis Heat Fans! It's been an awesome spring! Memphis Heat is now playing in major Hollywood Theaters all over the country. We had a blowout opening in Memphis held over for three weeks and was the #1 movie at Malco Studio on the Square for its run! Thank you for all your support and thank Malco as well!
Now, Memphis Heat moves on to one of the coolest movie theaters in the country--the Belcourt Theater in Nashville for a run June 17-20th! Please don't miss this if you are in the neighborhood. Nashville was the home base for the Gulas wrestling promotional office, so we are expecting a lot of old-school wrestling fans to go along with our growing documentary fanbase!
Also, Memphis Heat has been chosen one of 8 Hollywood films to be in the Orpheum Memphis Summer Film Series in July! We are honored to be in there with The Last Picture Show, Hustle and Flow, The Firm, and Walk the Line, amongst others! This will be an awesome night to remember Friday, July 22 at the classic Orpheum Theater in Memphis!
Update #10: Memphis Heat Trailer and World Premiere!
Thanks to all our Kickstarter supporters we have finished Memphis Heat: The True Story of Memphis Wrasslin'! Memphis Heat will world premiere in Memphis, Tennessee, on National Sputnik Monroe Day, Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Malco's Paradiso Theater 584 S.Mendenhall.
On Friday, March 25, 2011, Memphis Heat will begin a week-long run at Memphis Malco Studio on the Square 2105 Court Ave. Do not miss the most important film of our times! Kickstarter supporters, if you were generous enough to pledged the amount that included a ticket or tickets to the world premiere, they will be mailed out to you in a few weeks. We look forward to seeing you at the Paradiso March 24th! Thank you so much!

Sam Phillips son Jerry and I met Sputnik in 1957 and we remained close up until his death. he spent 3 weeks with my family the year before he died and my son and I video taped him talking about everything from the time he was born until that day. I had a tough step father and Sputnik decided I was going to be his God son and he told my step father that and I never got a beating after that. jerry and I drove down for Sputnik's funeral and relived some of the wild times we had, I will always have a special place in my heart for Sputnik and Jerry Phillips who was best man at my wedding , I went on to be a radio and TV veteran until I had a heart attack while on the air.

Update #8: Memphis Heat Burning Up!

Thanks to your generous support, we reached our goal within a couple hours of the deadline! Now that we have achieved this with so many fantastic supporters, we can concentrate on finishing this film as best we can--going for the NWA championship belt in the next couple of months. We will be sending out your premium prizes (stickers, posters, etc.) as they are created. The dvd may take awhile as we do not yet have a release date for that, but you will eventually receive one when it is available.
On behalf of the film's director, Chad Schaffler, and his hardworking assistant, Billie Worley, Ron Hall and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for aiding us on this labor of love. Now we have to deliver to you a no-holds-barred knock-out punch!

Shangri-la Projects has over 50 releases of Memphis culture--from the Grifters' award-winning albums to a documentary on Memphis blues hero Will Roy Sanders to a series of books and cds on Memphis Garage rock in conjunction with Memphis historian & writer Ron Hall. He is currently producing a documentary on Memphis wrestling based on Ron Hall's Sputnik, Masked Men, & Midgets: The Early Days of Memphis Wrestling.
