About this project
In the spring of 2009, we began filming, shooting, and documenting the history of Memphis wrestling with interviews of Memphis wrestling legends like Sputnik Monroe, Billy Wicks, Jackie Fargo, Jerry Lawler, Jimmy Hart, Handsome Jimmy Valiant, "Superstar" Bill Dundee, & referee Jerry Calhoun, among others.
The scope of the film has expanded from a short tribute piece to the halcyon days based on Ron Hall's amazing Sputnik, Masked Men, & Midgets: The Early Days of Memphis Wrestling book to an eye-gouging, hair-pulling, bloody full-length feature.
With the increase in length and content, our budget has been busted like the neck of Abdullah the Butcher's opponent after he jabbed a sharp fork into it, and we need $7500 to finish editing, sound design, and soundtrack.
We are seeking these finishing funds to help make this film available in the fall of 2010. We plan on making this a successful commercial release for discerning documentary fans in film festivals, in theaters, on cable television, and more.

Sherman Willmott began Shangri-la Records & Shangri-la Projects in 1989. Shangri-la Records is now one of the top record stores in the world. Shangri-la Projects has over 50 releases of Memphis culture--from the Grifters' award-winning albums to a documentary on Memphis blues hero Will Roy Sanders to a series of books and cds on Memphis Garage rock in conjunction with Memphis historian & writer Ron Hall. He is currently producing a documentary on Memphis wrestling based on Ron Hall's Sputnik, Masked Men, & Midgets: The Early Days of Memphis Wrestling.
