BACK GROUND We live in a very politically charged environment where depending on what political party you associate yourself with you can be shut out of conversations and possible lose friends. As I have viewed the divide that is occuring in America I have become convinced that we are being divided by "talking points" that where many are very important, lead us away from the true issues facing America. I am convinced that the majority of Americans feel and believe very similar things in that they want their freedom and the freedom of their fellow countrymen and want to be happy. Political parties and media have turned the standard American against each other to fight against each other to deter eachother from uniting. THE IDEA Based on my belief that it was through people of different backgrounds and beliefs uniting to create the constitution and create America I believe that we can unite once more through that document. I have created a piece of art work that is the entire Constitution laid out in the shape of the American Map. My desire is to sculpt this art work and a 4'x3' slab of granite and then cut it into several hundred peices like a giant jig saw puzzel. I will then mail each of these peices to individuals who have shown that they are leaders in America in an effort to unite all of the leaders in America across political boundaries to focus of the real issues facing every American. ULTIMATE GOAL My ultimate goal for this project is to break down the rehtoric that is happening in America of left and right to unite in the center where the average American resides. I want to live in a world where instead a week long debate on what kind of dog the president should have while in the white house we hear discussions of how we can create actual jobs, feed the hungry, educate the uneducated and relieve the nation of anti-depressants by finding a way to get people happy.
