everyone-- a few of you have emailed me, rightfully wondering "what's the deal?". well, as i wrote in an earlier update, "the deal" was a long, complicated and rocky thing that might bear repeating at some point but not now: only this-- it took me far, far longer than i ever dreamed it would (and cost more $) and every time it was "close" and i said out loud "it's practically DONE!!" something rotten would happen that put finishing the thing at all in question, so i decided not to tempt the jinx and say anything at all until finished books were in my hands.
and now they are. see? look: (oh hell it's at the bottom of the page not here like i'd planned)
104 pages. french flap in back. some great printing, some ok printing, but i'll be damned if this book doesn't feel like it...was made by some guy, in a basement (in the best possible way). i'm extraordinarily proud of it. i hope you like it too.
the first 125 copies rolled out of the bindery at 3pm on friday, so fresh that i couldn't open them for 3 hours because the glue hadn't cooled, and sold some at Minneapolis Indie Xpo this past weekend to get some much needed cashflow...but besides that, these books will not be available in stores for a number of months. i want to again express my sincere thanks not only for pledging/ helping this thing get done, but also for your extended patience-- i ought to know by now that it always takes longer than you'd like, but still..this took a lot longer than i'd have liked.
the good upshot of all this for you, the backer, is that in between the Kickstarter campaign and completion of the book, i decided to change the cover price from $12 to $14. which means that you're saving even MORE than if you would've bought it in the store or whatever. i didn't plan it that way, but it's a little extra reward for having to wait so long. this makes me happy.
enough with the hand wringing, point is: your book is done, and i want to send it to you.
so now i'm getting your info and (with the help of my intern, so it gets done quicker) sending them out to you. i'm working on the "survey" thing Kickstarter gives for pledge fulfillment, so look for that soon, but overall--please let me know if you would NOT liked the book inscribed to you (because that's my plan, here), or if you have any other requests as far as mailing etc etc etc (i know i said "overseas postage will be asked for extra $", but soon after Kickstarter mailed me and said well, you cant really do that. so. if you are overseas and can/ want to/ have the ability to hit me with a bit more via paypal, that would be fantastic. if not, ok too. those of you in the Mpls metro area, i might just put it into your hands directly, we'll see.). i hope to get all these out by the end of the month.
again; thank you all for being part of this project. i mean it.
hot damn.
my best,
zak sally.
