About this project

Few people in the world know of the egregious human rights violations and associated health, economic, food security, and educational impacts faced by the Burmese on a daily basis. The military dictatorship has kept an incredibly tight clamp on news going in and news going out of Burma. Human Rights Watch describes Burma’s humanitarian crisis “one of the worst in the world.”

Collaborating with photojournalist Arthur Nazaryan, Clear Path International (CPI) will produce a mixed-media documentary film portraying personal stories of Shan, Karen, Karenni, Kachin, Mon, and Burmese people. A series of interwoven vignettes, each unto itself a compelling social media application, will give voice to social injustices inflicted on the Burmese and show the world the power of the human spirit. The Burmese say that theirs is a world of suffering – by giving them a voice through this film, their suffering will have meaning.

Arthur will spend November and December inside Burma, within the ethnic states, and at the Thai/Burma border. We have already identified a diverse group of interviewees – men, women, children, Buddhists, Christians, military, farmers, landmine survivors, doctors, and child trafficking victims.

We intend to show many faces of Burma – and to capture each individual’s story, their unique cultural and ethnic characteristics, their dreams, their suffering, and their needs.

Timing is optimum to raise awareness and support for the Burmese humanitarian crisis. With Burma’s creation of a new ‘democratic’ government last November, officially ending military junta rule, new avenues are surfacing for NGOs to provide assistance. Burmese civil society organizations are more visible, strong, and eager to partner with international nonprofits. The world is watching Aung San Suu Kyi after her recent release from house arrest to see what her role will be in the transition. The United Nations and U.S. government are re-engaged with Burmese issues and global assistance needs.

Your donations will pay for Arthur’s time and his travel costs, as well as film editing by George Carrara, professional video editor.  As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations to CPI's project are tax deductible.

Stories touch people’s hearts. Through social media and international broadcasters, CPI will actively share these powerful stories. The stories will speak for themselves.

Thank you for giving voice to the Burmese people!
