New Video: T-Shirts, Survey on Denizens, And More!
It’s me, Rick Dakan, explaining things in a video! You should watch it!
For those of you who did, here are the links to the two surveys I mention:

Denizen Designs:

For those of you who didn’t or just want a handy reference sheet, here’s the text version:
Things are going great, and we’re closing in on our $25,000 goal. In order to push things along and because lots of people have asked us about them (and because we want them too) we’ve added some new rewards, including T-Shirts.
The t-shirts are now a reward for the new $45 level, which means if you’ve already pledged more than that, you’ll be getting a t-shirt (free shipping in US, additional charge TBD outside)! When the Kickstarter ends, you’ll be asked to pick a size - and we’ll have men’s and women’s shirts available. But what does the shirt look like? We don’t know yet! But we have seven options, and we’d like your opinion on them. So, go here and vote:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/haunts_shirts
We’ll announce the winning design next week, on June 18th, for those of you who want to wait and see what wins before you pledge.
At the higher end, we’ve added a $150 pledge level. Those generous donors will get a caricature of their Gallery of Generous Ghouls portrait, done by Austin in the game’s style. This portrait will appear IN GAME on various walls.
Push that up to $200 and Austin will send you a hand-drawn version of your caricature as it appears in the game, with some extra TBD charge for shipping outside the US.
Furthermore, we’d like your help picking some of the master-level characters for the game. Here again we’ve got a survey and some options for you that we’d like your opinion on. So follow this link and help decide the kinds of denizens you’ll be facing/playing in the finished game!
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/haunts_denizens
Thanks again to all of you for your amazing support so far, and we look forward to your feedback on both the shirts and the denizens.
Rick

You'd like a mummy wearing a tie? That sounds pretty sweet.
Creator Kevin on June 11, 2012
Ok...I loved both the mummies. But, alas, there was no tie choice.

One shoulder hunchback!
Creator Kairam Ahmed Hamdan on June 11, 2012
I didn't like any of the Frankenstein monster/Swamp monster drawings, they're a bit too extreme for me, either too gaunt (which I find unfit) or too bloated (which I think was messy [an uniform mess], and lacked identity [which was unappealing to me]). Maybe some detail added to the big guy design can solve it. A hunchback, perhaps?
Best.

The characters look pretty great, and in particular the finely attired creatures of the night made it difficult to choose between the woman and the classic Nosferatu look. With respect to the Burton influence (which was far from my first association), some guy who knew things about art once said good artists copy, great artists steal: his intent was not to call everyone a thief (well, it might have been that too) but to suggest there is something fundamentally problematic about seeing an art style as "owned", and whatever it is, it is incompatible with the obsession over intellectual property in the modern age.
To me, the game has always seem influenced by Edward Gorey's sense of tone and style, and I think that's great. While the game will be made or broken by the gameplay in the end, it was the look that was the initial draw for me and what continues to make this stand out.
In any case, with respect to the T-shirts I think more confidence in the art rather than pursuit of branding would make them feel more appealing. In general, most of the designs are good but overwhelming by virtue of spanning the entire front of the shirt, and if it's feasible moving "haunts etc" to the back would make them much more appealing and less billboard-like. Thanks and good luck!

Don't call them "somewhat reminiscent" and then mention a legal issue because you think they're an exact copy. Could you tell me what law there is that says you can sue someone for having a similar art style?
Creator jim collins on June 11, 2012
The characters in the survey are somewhat reminiscent of Tim Burtonesque line drawings. Which is cool. However, I'm concerned about a potential legal issue; they look that close to me.
Creator Irfon-Kim Ahmad on June 11, 2012
Also, in terms of encouraging people to up pledges to the t-shirt level, it would be more compelling if you mentioned what sizes would be available.

Sumerian only has one 'm' in it, as far as I can tell. :)
