“To Be” is a sex-romp dramedy about an interracial couple on the verge of losing their respective virginities while dog-sitting.

Life doesn't just happen. People make things happen. The people that make things happen are the ones that realize that we, as human beings, are hurtling forward at one million miles per hour on a straight, singular path through the universe until we're out of it. Those that do nothing think they aren't moving just as fast, but they're wrong. They're not putting on the brakes. They're just missing out on all the attractions that linger in the corner of their eyes. All the "could be"s and "would be"s and "should be"s fade fast into the background until they're all just specks barely seen in your rearview mirror. Be a person that makes something happen. Reach out and grab what you want. Lift your arm, stretch your hand. Grab it. Grab something. Move. Move. Move.

I wrote that in my journal (ugh I hate calling it a journal, but "book that I write in" is long-winded) during the summer. I want to be a person that makes things happen, and I'm sick of my work being trapped in my computer. So I wrote a one-act and signed up for the Hollywood Fringe Festival. As production costs keep building, I've realized this is not a burden I can bear alone. That's where all of you lovely people come in.

By donating to this project, you will help me stage my play to its full potential. This play is my first foray into the LA theater scene, but I hope it grants me the opportunity to make connections within the community so that I can continue to write and stage my work.

Every dollar counts, so please, help a sister out.

About the play:

“To Be” is a poignant sex-romp comedy about an interracial couple on the verge of losing their respective virginities. While dog-sitting during a snow squall, 16-year-old Valerie decides she’s ready to lose it to her boyfriend Simon. She invites him over with the promise that the dogs won’t get too involved, at least that’s what she had hoped. Ready or not, Valerie and Simon are in for a night of revelations, confrontations and doggie-filled adventure as they fumble towards a right of passage.
