About this project
We've finished production on our new film, Paradise Recovered www.paradiserecovered.com , and we are ready to go ON THE ROAD!
Your generous support will help us with travel expenses to film festivals and screenings, production of a DVD, production of an official soundtrack, and free screenings for survivors of spiritual abuse.
You'll be kept up to date with newsletters of the goings on during our travels, plus fun stuff that we will send only to you, our supporters.
Plus, you'll get some great rewards. We think of this as win-win.
Our bare bones budget is for $7,000, but we'd like to raise more. If we can, we'll spread the film farther and wider.
When you become a supporter of Paradise Recovered and help it to become profitable, you will be kickstarting other projects. Every artist and musician who works on our film will be getting a piece of it. They all have dreams that they want to come true.
All of these artists took a chance on us, and we, in turn, are sharing the profits with them.
And one more thing: a full 10% (and probably more) of the profits from Paradise Recovered are going directly to Wellspring Retreat and Resource Center www.wellspringretreat.org , an organization that assists with mental health services for survivors of spiritual abuse.
Many people leave high demand churches and cults in need of treatment for PTSD and anxiety disorders. When people leave these groups, they often have no education, no job skills, and no money, so quality mental health care is often not a high priority.
Our dream is to fully fund either an existing clinic or a new foundation so that no person is ever turned away because of lack of funds. We've said all along that if our film saves one life, it will have been worth the effort. We believe it will.
Here's a brief synopsis of the film:
Esther Harris, a young woman praised for her virtue and devotion to Warren F. Vanderbilt’s Prophetic Watchman Ministries, has been given the opportunity of a lifetime – to attend Vanderbilt’s Kingdom Bible College.
When the fundamentalist Christian sect falls on hard times, Esther looks for employment at a local health food store to supplement the group’s income.
At the store, Esther gets a chance to share her faith with her new manager, Gabriel, a devout skeptic and preacher’s kid, and his roommate, Mark, a college drop-out who finds Christian television to be great entertainment.
The friendship with Gabriel and Mark help Esther determine her human worth while helping her reframe her faith in a whole new light.
Shot entirely on location in Southern Indiana and Austin, Texas, Paradise Recovered attempts a modern-day retelling of the parable of the Good Samaritan while addressing hard questions involving faith, tolerance, and spiritual abuse in modern culture.
