AAA speedboat racing and stunt game set in realworld places Venice, London, Paris, Niagara Falls, Lake Zurich, Goa, Egypt, Prague.
Harking back to the classic boat racing games of the 1980’s and 1990’s, Waveryder combines stunning cutting-edge visuals and exciting arcade-style gameplay. Set in exceptionally detailed photorealistic real-world locations such as Venice, Lake Zurich, Niagara Falls, Egypt, Paris, London, Goa, and Prague, Waveryder pushes modern PC hardware to its limits.
In addition to arcade racing, the game also features a dedicated Stunt Mode. Available in both singleplayer and multiplayer, Waveryder’s unique stunt mode allows players to engage turbo and leap over some of the most stunning bridges in the world. These iconic bridges include the Calatrava Bridge (Venice), Tower Bridge (London), Charles Bridge (Prague) and Pont Neuf (Paris).
As the boats leap over the bridges, time slows down, allowing players to execute multiple acrobatic stunts. Based on the quality of their stunts, players receive achievement points and unlock trophies. All achievement points can be uploaded to a global leaderboard.
Players can also use the achievement points to unlock faster boats, modify and upgrade them in a fully equipped garage. In Multiplayer, Waveryder also features a Spectator Mode. Players can perch themselves on top of their favourite bridges and watch the stunts being performed by their friends or other players.
The game also has full social network connectivity. Players can send challenges to their Facebook, Google+ friends for multiplayer matches and upload achievements to both social networks.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Challenge 1: Multiplayer Technology & Associated Delay
Waveryder uses Unity 3D middleware. As yet, the Waveryder team has not decided on the technology to be used for implementing 8 player multiplayer. So there is a small risk that the multiplayer will be delayed.
The two options currently being considered are
a) Unity Networking
b) Photon Cloud
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. A final decision will be made in July after a thorough evaluation of both technologies. During development, we will be seeking regular feedback from our supports.
Challenge 2: Global Leaderboard Interface
Waveryder is designed to be accessible to both casual and core gamers. Unlike a FPS targeted at only core gamers, the global leaderboard needs to have a clean interface with detailed info being accessible easily if required.
The team will be seeking regular feedback from the beta testers and multiple GUI versions will be tested.
Yes, we are planning to release a demo for Windows, Mac and Linux in the coming weeks. Stay tuned....
As many as possible. We are currently testing internally using Ubuntu. We are hoping that the Linux community will join in and help with the compatibility testing.
