UNDER THE POPPY is a lush Victorian brothel, and everyone working there needs costumes! Help dress our actors for this immersive theatrical show.
UNDER THE POPPY http://underthepoppy.com is an immersive, multimedia show using live actors, live music, film, and puppetry, adapted by Kathe Koja from her novel of the same name: a passionate story of love lost and found, set in a grungy Victorian-era brothel. (The novel will be published this October from Small Beer Press http://smallbeerpress.com/)
Since our audience won't just watch this show but be fully present in its world, wardrobe is crucial. Our actors will be costumed in a variety of unique and sexy styles, a mash-up of Victorian, punk, sideshow circus and High Romantic, created by Monika Essen http://studioepoque.com.
UNDER THE POPPY is slated for the Chrysler Black Box Theatre at the Detroit Opera House in February 2011. As a backer, you'll be part of the show no matter where you are. Pick an object of clothing you think is cool - knickers, corset, brothel creepers, top hat - or dress one of the characters head-to-toe. If you're a theatre geek or a fashionista, a fan of Kathe's, Monika's or Diane's, or some glorious combination, this will be fun! All monies collected through Kickstarter will go entirely to the show's costume budget.
