ABOUT US

OUR GOAL WITH THE BASS EGG PROJECT IS TO MAKE EVERYTHING IN YOUR WORLD A SPEAKER!

The Bass Egg uses the newest innovations in portable reverberation speaker technology and will change the way you listen to music.

INDUCTION MOTOR HISTORY

The induction motor technology can be traced back to its roots in the early 1800’s, later gaining notoriety in the late 1800’s through the work of Nikola Tesla, first to patent the induction motor. The basis of the technology (and what drives the Bass Egg), is an alternating electrical current run through a coil to create a rotating magnetic field.

In the reverberation loudspeaker, a magnet placed within this field pushes and pulls a diaphragm at the frequency dictated by your audio device. The diaphragm then transfers these frequencies through the surface of the object used as a speaker.  As the object vibrates at your music’s frequencies, the resulting variations in air pressure produce sound waves.Reverberation loudspeaker technology has been used by the military and in medicine for decades, but we see the growth potential in the portable music industry.

Project History

The Bass Egg project began over a year ago when one team member was given a reverberation loudspeaker by his father. While the use of this technology in loudspeakers existed, there was much left to be desired.  The only products available were either high in sound quality but not portable, or a novelty product encased in cheap plastic - not durable and lacking in sound quality. In addition, no versions were easy to use or appealing in their design.

Driven by the desire to design and manufacture the “best in class” reverberation speaker, our goal was to develop a product with the following attributes: Small and Portable, Sleek, Wireless and Easy to Use, and Durable. Of course, big, Quality Sound was a must.

After many long nights, much frustration and several trips to potential manufacturers – the Bass Egg was hatched:

Surfaces

With the Bass Egg, you can make everything in your world a speaker, even objects that other products cannot. For example:

A WOODEN TABLE – the sound on wood is deep and rich, reflective of the physical properties of the surface.

Wood

A GLASS TABLE – the sound on glass is crystal clear and concise.

A CAR ROOF – the large surface area of a car roof or hood creates enough sound to fuel a tailgate party.

Metal

A BOAT HULL – the sound on fiberglass is full and complete. (Fun Fact: many Bass Egg team members are avid boaters, and as such, fiberglass is one of our favorite surfaces).

Production Plan

Jonathan, Bass Egg’s CEO, has traveled extensively in pursuit of the right manufacturer for the Bass Egg.  During these trips, he has also managed to develop the connections essential for distribution, from production to delivery. Back in the U.S., team members Cameron and Adam have been instrumental in implementing both the organizational and operational elements of Bass Egg.

We have a factory ready and waiting for us to start production, and the necessary testing and certifications are underway. Our packaging and manuals are designed, sourced and ready for production. Our transportation and distribution resources are in place. We are ready to go.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

RISKS

MANUFACTURING RISK:

1. Oversight

2. Quality Control Procedures

We have focused heavily on minimizing the manufacturing risk of this product through extensive testing and relationship-building with our manufacturer. However, as in any new electronics manufacturing process, there is always the potential for error.

SUPPLIER RISK:

1. Delivery of Production Inputs

As a small startup, it is very difficult to ensure we do not have potential component supplier input issues. However, we have chosen a factory that has solid relationships with multiple component suppliers in the event of any unforseen complications.

DISTRIBUTION RISK

1. Ensuring Delivery

We have a distribution strategy in place, but it has yet to be tested on a large scale. To prepare for the response we hope to receive on Kickstarter, we have prepared the manufacturer and lined up several logistics providers to assist with unanticipated volume surges.

POLITICAL RISK

1. Currency Risk

2. Imposed Tariff Increases on Foreign Produced Goods

Macroeconomic risk is an unavoidable risk to Bass Egg. We have sought to reduce any potential impact by maintaining a competitive price point while delivering above-market sound. To further mitigate macroeconomic risk, Bass Egg conducts all transactions in U.S. Dollars.

CHALLENGES:

At the beginning of the Bass Egg Project, our challenges included envisioning and designing the Bass Egg features, finding a manufacturer, sourcing the various components, and perfecting our packaging (which is designed to carry the Bass Egg on the go and acoustically engineered to produce optimal sound).

Now that we have overcome these obstacles, our next challenges include completing testing, scaling our distribution strategies, and growing our team. Our plans are in place, and with the capital we hope to receive, we will help you make your world your speaker.

FAQ

  • The Bass Egg uses a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that allows for a play time between 6-8 hours depending on play back volume.  When the battery is low, a red light will come on.  To recharge, simply plug the included charging cord into any USB port (such as a computer, laptop, or iPhone charging adapter).  The red light will turn off when it is fully recharged.  The Bass Egg takes around 1 1/2 hours to fully recharge and can charge while being used.
