Update #14: Second Phase!

Posted on December 22

Hey, guess what? Today I got the cart back from Fab PDX! The serving window, electrical, insulation, flooring, siding and portholes have been installed! Now it's my turn to do some beautifying!

I will be installing some cabinets, shelving and general steampunkification before sending the cart BACK to FAB PDX so they can finish installing the appliances, sinks and plumbing and lighting. It's going to be a busy couple month and we've of course been behind schedule but I've decided to revise the schedule so that we are now ON schedule (you like how I did that?) I am now hoping to be open by March! *Keep your fingers crossed!

Check out these photos! I especially am in love with the functioning portholes! Fab PDX does amazing work!

Thanx for the update. I know that you have what it takes to pull this off (an extra dose of "steampunkafication". I am hoping that it is contagious and that you will soon be selling all over the planet. Charles Milton Architectural Designer (small contributor.... but big things can grow from small seeds). Hope to catch up to you with a project of my own. Thanx for being a trailblazer.

Update #13: Rewards!

Posted on October 18, 2011

I just want to thank everyone for being so supportive and patient! I am working on getting the rewards made and then shipped out to everyone! As you all know I am also a full-time cake decorator so the busy season really sucked up my time! But now I'm taking a break to fully focus on getting savor cakes up and running and get you all your rewards!

The plan is to officially get the cart out to the public by January 1st. I will do the grand opening as soon as the cart is finished being built. I hope a lot of you can make it! If you can't just let me know and I'll ship you some savor cakes so you can enjoy with us in spirit.

I am busy refining the menu and perfecting recipes. The savor cakes I will be offering to start out will be:

Pepperoni Pizza: Savor cakes with fresh basil, and mozzarella icing
Biscuits and Gravy: Flaky buttery biscuit wrapped around creamy gravy with a hint of freshly cracked pepper
Chicken Soup Biscuit: Homestyle chicken soup. Slow cooked and all natural. Combined with our flaky biscuits. Provides instant comfort and coziness.
Spicy Mac and Cheese: Oohy gooey creamy bechamel sauce combined with 5 kinds of cheeses. Baked up in flaky crust and topped with bacon and panko.
Quiche: Buttery and flaky crusts filled to the brim with your choice of fillings.
Spicy Tuna (also available vegetarian): Sticky rice and seaweed holds tight spicy tuna and various veggies. Like a cross between sushi and a burrito.

Also! The cart will be offering up Freshly juiced veggie/fruit smoothies. When you purchase a savor cake and a smoothie, you'll get a mini dessert included for free.

I can't wait until the cart is finished and I can start selling!

Liz

Update #12: Renovating time!

Posted on September 22, 2011
Word spread like wild fire and thanks to all our awesome supporters, we raised $6,000 in the last two days of our fundraising. We have reached our goal and we have begun renovations!

The wonderful and talented crew of FAB PDX will be constructing the soon to be awesome Savor Cakes cart! The plan review has been submitted and we're just waiting on the go ahead!

Here are the mock-ups I put together for the plan review. This will give you an idea of where everything is going to be on the cart!

I just got some awesome port hole windows, the sinks, the oven, blender, range good, water heater and fresh and grey water tanks! Still need a refrigerator, small freezer, cash register and juicer! We're one step closer!

I'll be keeping everyone updated on the food cart's progression!

PS, I have chosen the 10th and Alder food pod for the savor cakes permanent home. The cart should be open by November for catering and then parked in her spot by January!

Update #11: Yay we did it!!!

Posted on August 11, 2011

Congratulations everyone! Because of all your endless twittering, facebooking, tumbling, praying and general spamming of everyone you know, we have made our goal!!!! This is SUPER exciting! Now I'll be taking on phase two of food cart production! I will be tearing out the old walls and flooring and begin re-framing and building up the new walls and frames. I will be buying our oven (yay!) and other appliances too!

Here is a 3D mock-up I have been working on for the county proposal.

As you can see she still looks pretty much like a trailer so I have a lot of work ahead of me!

This is a super exciting time! I want to use as many re-purposed materials as possible so if anyone comes across any steampunk-y gears, bulbs, or ornate woodwork (especially and old door) please let me know! I'll be continuing to update frequently so you all know what kind of progress I am making on the cart! Again, thank you SO MUCH everyone! You are the best crew a gal could ask for! I'll be ordering all our rewards and getting things made and shipping them off to you in the next few weeks! Until then, follow along on twitter and facebook to keep up on the carts progress! Thank you thank you everyone! I am overwhelmed by the success of this! I love you guys!!!

Excellent news!! This is very exciting!!! I don't live in Portland, I'm clear across the other side of the country in NYC, but I still had to support this project!! Just on GP!! (That's general principle.) I can't wait to find you when I finally do make my way to Portland!!!! Good luck and godspeed(punk)!!!

Disclaimer: I don't normally use so many exclamation points. That's just how excited I am about this project.

Congratulations! (Thank Devan for my support)
I'm going to my parents place in Clackamas this weekend. They run a horse shoe supply business so I'll poke about and see if anything laying around fits the steampunk ethos.
Plenty of rusty stuff but not much brass and copper.

I don't need any brass or copper (might get stolen) so definitely keep your eyes out for some cool stuff and let me know if they want to sell anything!! Thanks adam!
