"The Better Half" tracks the unhinging of a contemporary marriage as each partner grasps for alternative (and thrilling) story lines.
What we're doing
"The Better Half" started out as a reworking of the classic melodrama "Gaslight"--the 1944 film about a woman who is manipulated into believing she is insane by her husband, who is obsessed with searching for jewels related to a murder he committed years ago.
But as co-creators Julia Rhoads (Lucky Plush Artistic Director) and Leslie Buxbaum Danzig (500 Clown Theater Director and Co-founder) began working together, they decided to depart from their source material to create an entirely original exploration of contemporary relationships that is both strikingly relevant and surprisingly immediate.
"The Better Half" will premiere in October 2011 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. We can't wait!--but we have a lot to do before then.

We love breaking down the boundaries between artists and audiences, and we hope you'll see this as a chance to learn about and get involved in our latest creation! We've set up this Kickstarter website to give you a taste of what's to come in the fall when we launch "The Better Half."
In the meantime, we're offering several rewards for involvement at any level. (Please note that invitations to rehearsals, galas, and performances do not include your transportation costs.) We need help purchasing costumes, props, and all the elements of set design. By getting involved at this stage, you earn our heartfelt thanks.
How Kickstarter works
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing endeavor. When you pledge, a hold is placed on your credit card. If we do not make our goal of $5,000 by our deadline, you will not be charged. If we do make our goal, you'll be charged at the end of the Kickstarter campaign, and you'll receive whichever reward you've chosen.
