Testing!

Update #6 · May 5, 2012 · comment

How will WinRuby help with testing? Let's start with continuous integration. The plan is to setup a series of Windows servers with different (server) versions of the Windows operating system. That means everything from Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2008.

When you sign up for the testing service, you'll have several choices. First, you'll select what it is you want to test, individual libraries or a full application. Once you've selected that, you'll be able to choose which versions of the Windows operating system you want to choose from.

Next, you'll be able to select which particular version(s) of Ruby you want to test with. Do you want 1.8? 1.9? Both? Do you want a mingw or msvc build? Do you want to test with JRuby? All of these options will eventually be available to you.

From there I'll simply need to know how you prefer to run your tests, and what testing libraries are needed to run them. Will you be using rspec, test-unit, minitest, or something else? Here I will rely on either your gemspec or Bundler.

Once that's established, you'll be up and running. You will start receiving test results immediately, and can view the results in a web browser and receive them via email.

If failures happen, and you aren't sure how to fix them, I can offer help both in terms of advice and code. :)
