Help support the Go Folk Yourself Summer Fest! The GFY Festival will be a showcase of local musicians in Brooklyn on August 20, 2011.
Go Folk Yourself (GFY) is a Music Video Newsblog that promotes independent artists in Brooklyn. We are a volunteer organization that has organized over 15 shows in the past year, and now we want to throw a festival! The Go Folk Yourself Summer Fest will be an all day event, free to the public.

We believe in free access to music, and provide a platform for independent and folk musicians to play for the public. Every show we produce is posted online, and we believe that the GFY Summer Fest is an opportunity for us to attract some of the best local independent acts, and play them all back for you.
The festival will be held in Williamsburg’s Cooper Park. Along with two stages will be local vendor booths selling food and merchandise. The music will play all afternoon while families or music fans can enjoy and eat. We are asking you to help us pay for Park Permits and Fees. We are a not-for-profit group of volunteers that covers all production costs, but we need help with the $5,500 that’s required to rent and insure a park for a day.
Every act at the GFY will be filmed, and we’ll post it online for everyone to see. We hope the Go Folk Yourself Summer Fest turns out to be a great showcase of independent treblemakers, and we appreciate your help.
Here's our budget breakdown:
$2,200-2,500, for our park permit. Our application is in the last stages of processing, we'll update as we get there.
$750 for a special event insurance policy.
$250 for generator rentals.
$200 for Equipment Transportation.
$250 for our staging areas.
$600 for security.
$500 for port-o-potty rentals.
$200 for promotional material
$100 for diesel.
$220 for dedicated master hard drives to carry the content for the festival.
The proceeds from the festival will go to maintaining our organization so we can keep throwing events and promoting independent music artists. Thank you all for the support!

Please note that this incentive does not include sound or video editing. All raw footage will be turned over to the band for their personal use.
