Update #3: Do Some Writing and Get Involved
For those that are or have read Midwasteland, I have two questions for you:
1. Did you like the book? Enough to care about the characters? The settings? What happens next? What happened before? If you haven't read it already, I've put the eBook version up on Scribd, because I really want everyone who's backed this project to be able to read it no matter what happens: http://www.scribd.com/doc/38346865/Midwasteland-vFinal
2. Can you write?
Here's what I'm thinking. I'd like to take submissions of short stories from all of you based on the Midwasteland universe. I'll compile them, editing only for grammar/syntax and to make the canon, get your final approval on the edits, and then put them together for a Midwasteland Collection eBook to be free to anyone and everyone. Perhaps (after Midwasteland becomes a best seller and gets turned into Spielburgh's latest box office smash) it will make sense to release it as a hard copy book for sale, at which point you all will be the authors and I'll just be the editor. That way, we can all share in some tasty income together while getting our collective names out there as writers and showing others what we can do.
Here's the the best part. I'm almost certainly going to write a sequel to Midwasteland, so long as anyone is interested in it enough to want one. I'd like to incorporate all of your stories into my writing. I'll have to take into account the new canon in the sequel. The backstories, the future happenings, the way you've evolved the universe. In fact, if anyone out there is a fast reader and wants to give this a go, I'll post it as a guest post on this site, so we can all see how it's done.

Update #2: Favors and Updates!
To all the folks who have pledged for this project thus far. Obviously I'm still a ways off to the goal. I have a favor to ask. If you could take a moment to let people know about the project today, I would truly appreciate it. Part of this is my fault; I haven't done enough prep work for this project. But I still want to make it a reality!
Plus, I also wanted to let all of you know that even if the project does not attain it's goal, I want to send you all a copy of the eBook for free. If you want to email me at tgeigs@gmail.com, I will make sure you get a copy for yourselves. Just specify what format you would like it in and I'll do my best to accomodate you.
Also, I have gotten some interest in this work, due to this project, from both a literary agent and a small indy film company. I don't think they'd have shown any interest at all if it weren't for all of you, so my sincerest thanks!
Update #1: Incentives to share
First, again, THANK YOU! To you guys that backed this project early, it truly means the world to me. Now, I must ask you to give something even more valuable than money: your advice.
One of the challenges with funding a project like this is reaching critical mass. Not unlike Orson Scott Cards "Little Doctor", what's important is getting word around. I can talk all I like about how splendiferous my book/project is, but I think it means more coming from others. So, here's the question: what can I do to make you want to tell others about this project? What incentives can I provide? What do you, the reader/customer, want?
What can I do to get your friends into this book today?
Ugh, did I just say that? I guess I did. Thing is, I mean it. I want this stuff to spread like a wildfire....

Well, I already told my friends through Facebook about it and that I pledged $10--because of the novelty of the project and because I'd like it to succeed. But I think it would be more compelling if they could get a sampling. If you had the first chapter written and posted on a webpage, then I could link to it on facebook and I think that would get a lot more attention.
Also I think having deliverable samples, such as the first chapter or an ancillary character bio, at certain commitment levels on the way to full funding would create more pull. Best of luck!

Please note that this is for real names only (no requests to name a character Wanker McSillypants).

This tier is specifically for corporate funders. Funders at this tier will get all of the above rewards. In addition, as I have peppered the settings of the book with ruins and/or remains of generic businesses, I will replace those generic businesses with mentions of real world companies (a presence or planned presence in the Chicago-land area is required to be considered). This is a wonderful way to have your business woven into an original storyline (non-intrusive to the story of course) and to have it mentioned for promotional and posterity's sake!
