The Aquarium Gallery and Studios are going to open for a major art event this fall but before that can happen it needs walls.
My name is Jacob Reptile Martin and I have started to turn a gutted home into a working artist studio and gallery. There will be two gallery spaces with monthly openings and 8 to 10 working studios. I want an inexpensive, influential, and fun place for local artists to work along side of each other. Artists wanting to live off their art will have space for holding workshops and selling all the little things they create.
The gallery will have an official opening at the end of October as a satellite venue for Prospect 2. We are also putting together a show that will be submitted to New Orleans Fringe Fest in November.The work is well under way with family and friends pitching in hours, resources and materials. My family and I are general contractors of all trade which has given me the experience to restore this historical building into an exciting lively art community.
I have been very lucky already scavenging materials like lumber, cabinets, ceiling fans, doors, and electrical outlets, but with Kickstarter I will be able to purchase plywood, sheetrock, paint, lighting, nails, and caulking. We already have our first artist Elizabeth Chen using a studio as of August, but we need your help to keep it growing!!!
