Help us kick the cans down the road. We are raising funds to build a canning line so more people can have access to our tasty brew!
Aluminum cans used to package beer have a water-based polymer lining that eliminates any metallic contamination or flavor.
Hello. Our names are Blaine Stansel and Tony Tielli. We are the founders of Roughtail Brewing Company in Oklahoma City, OK.
A little History
Starting a brewery is the dream of most homebrewer’s, and Tony and Blaine were no exception. Although they knew each other from the local homebrew club, they didn’t know each others aspirations. Upon learning of each others intentions to open a brewery focusing on full flavored craft ales, they decided to join forces. Roughtail Brewing Company was born. Over the next year they worked to raise money and make their dream a reality. Finally in August of 2012 they got their loan approved and started the process of making the brewery come alive. Currently the boys are getting their building ready for the equipment and work on permitting so they can legally get up and running as soon as possible.
Right now the brewing equipment is in transit from the manufacturer, the guys have received their Brewer's Notice from the TTB (their Federal brewing license) and they have hundreds of kegs just itching to be filled up with delicious beer. Roughtail beers will be available on tap in bars across Oklahoma in early 2013, and with your help available in cans by the middle of next year.
Many people associate cans with an inferior product, but in reality today’s canning technology is vastly superior to bottles, and here’s why. Aluminum cans used to package beer have a water-based polymer lining that eliminates any metallic contamination or flavor. Cans keep beer fresher longer because they allow zero oxygen or light to reach the beer. Glass bottles allow both oxygen and light in small doses, and this leads to staling and skunking. Simply put, canned beer is fresher than bottled beer when it reaches you. Cans are also more environmentally friendly. They are easier to recycle and require less packaging. Cans are cheaper for the brewery and distributor to ship. Cans don't break. Cans are easier and more convenient to bring along on outdoor activities such as camping, disc golf, hiking, a day at the beach and any other activity that affords you the luxury of enjoying good beer! Cans get cold pretty damn quick and take up less space in your fridge. Convinced yet? Many of the large craft breweries are switching to cans and a large portion of new craft breweries are starting out on cans. It’s not just the cool thing to do, it’s the right thing to do.
Building a craft brewery starts at the grass roots level. We will not be successful without community support. That’s why it’s our mission to build a company that the community can be proud of. Sure we want to make great beer, but we also want to be sustainable when we do so. Roughtail plans on being one small cog in a giant wheel of developing a truly unique city.
We think we have put together some pretty unique rewards for our backers. We have outlined the different products below. Most of the products below we already have, but ones we don’t will be ordered and shipped out as soon as possible. Things like the handblown glasses do take time though.
Images should be coming soon. Still in design phases.

We really need your support. If you can’t back the project at least tell a friend, or a lot of friends on Facebook. Also, try the beer once we’re up and running. We think you’ll love it. If you do love it tweet about us. If you don’t, keep it to yourself. Someone’s mother always said if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say anything at all. Just kidding, if you don’t like it tell us, we’ll fix it. With Roughtail still in the start-up phase we need as much support as we can get.
We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts and mugs, for your time and consideration.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Most of the rewards we either have or have already lined up the production. If there are some unforeseen setbacks we will work diligently to correct them. The great thing about our Kickstarter project is that none of the rewards are contingent on receiving approval by the state authorities, heck we've already received approval by the feds. There is little doubt that we will be brewing beer by February, and producing cans shortly thereafter.
