Hi, my name's M. Alice LeGrow, and I'm the creator of an 8-volume graphic novel series called Bizenghast, which was published by Tokyopop inc. from 2006 to present. Bizenghast has been published internationally in over a dozen languages and countries, and has fans in Hungary, Finland, Brazil and a lot of other neat places! Everything was swimmy and great, until my publisher closed its doors in America, and the new series I had lined up to publish with them after Bizenghast suddenly found itself homeless and without a publisher. That new series is this project, The Elephant Book.
The Elephant Book is an action/fantasy story set in Philadelphia, about a couple of kids named Williams and Fairfax (which one is which is anybody's guess), who are caught in the middle of a power struggle between two covert groups that are seeking to either preserve or destroy the one trait that defines humanity: the power to invent. A series four years in the making, the story spirals down levels and levels of millennium-old conspiracy and fear that has protected civilizations from the biggest trick ever played on the human race.
And this being Philadelphia, along the way everyone eats crab fries, goes to the game and ponders the mysteries of the Eternal Wawa.
I'd really like to take the next 6 months off from my current 2 jobs (fabric cutter and professional birthday princess), in order to have the time I need to create the first volume. To do so, I'm asking for your donations (in return for some awesome swag!), so that I can pay for rent, bills, supplies and food while creating the first volume, as well as pay for an initial printing and shipping of the first 200 copies. My goal is to have the book available for sale in November through my website, as well as get it distributed to some comic shops.
If the project gets the 100% donations it needs to be given the go-ahead, I will update this project on a bi-weekly basis with videos, photos, tutorials and art, so that you know just what's going on with the book, how far along it is and get to see some sneak peeks of the art and story.
If the first book does well with your support, I will have a much better chance of selling the rest of the series to another publisher and getting some proper marketing!
