About this project

Sample the Martian is Detroit Nerdcore Hip-Hop. (period) and it has become synonymous with this "invader" sticker. The original version of the sticker was used on an episode of abc's police drama: Detroit 1-8-7. This printing will be version 6. (yes try and collect the other 5) So far I have paid for several thousand stickers out of my pocket. Over the years more and more people have been helping to spread the word with them and thus the cost has grown beyond what I can cover. With this new iteration of sticker I plan to go with SUPER HIGH QUALITY glue on the back as well as a clear-coat to make the surface scratch proof. I would recommend holding on to a few stickers because as time goes on more and more people want to collect the old ones.

Passion, drive, heart, determination and creative masterminded marketing are often enough to sell people on my future success. I have shown with proof over and over again that I think big and I always create beyond people's expectations. Its more than just music - its art and soul.

Let me break it down simply . . . imagine a world where hip-hop has substance and depth both lyrically and musically . . . if that interests you . . .read on. If you are wondering how a sticker and sci-fi metaphor hip-hop are related - it will all make sense the more you read.

On the surface the songs are about zombies, space ships, and alien invasions - but under that they are metaphors for real life experiences and feelings with lots of interesting symbols and wordplay and delectable catchy choruses to sing along to. There is also a very visual side to this project. Master comic book artists: James O'Barr (Creator of the Crow), Tom Scioli, Dave Acosta and Joe Foo have contributed to the visual presentation, branding and marketing that is Sample the Martian.

"The man known as Empire started his intergalactic musical journey on the piano at the age of 12. He's a self-taught musician, having learned guitar, bass, drums, synth and all things hip-hop by ear. A job at Northern Michigan University's WUPX radio station in college further entrenched Empire in the musical scene and lifestyle. After graduation, he started Galactic Dust Records, and went on to release two compilations (Share Warez in 2002 and Untyin' Lost Souls in 2004), featuring only a handful of Sample the Martian tracks, but unleashing a number of up-and-coming nerdcore artists. While promoting the record in the Detroit area, Empire has built a network of local and national hip-hop acts. In 2010, a full-length Sample the Martian LP was released, showcasing a full album of the artist's spacey, robo-trippin' hip-hop amalgamations. Sample the Martian is nominated for "Outstanding Hip-Hop Artist/Group" and "Outstanding Urban/Funk/Hip-Hop Recording." | RDW
