Our story follows two southern brothers as they journey across a post-apocalyptic America, searching for their survivalist grandfather.
THE FILM'S STORY
Set in the not too distant future, Outside Paradise follows two southern brothers, Dale and Cole Cain as they travel along a post-apocalyptic American landscape in search of their survivalist grandfather. Amidst the desolation, Cole Cain raised his younger brother Dale to be strong, vigilant, and confidant in his convictions. But when Cole recognizes that his brother has become a vicious, cold-hearted murderer, he seeks redemption for his own sins. Armed with Antique 1873 Colt Peacemaker revolvers, a gross misinterpretation of the Holy Bible, an unshakable quest for justice, and an unhealthy obsession with their favorite Hollywood Western heroes, the Cain brothers embark on an Odyssey across the desolate New America.
At its heart, Outside Paradise explores the themes of loyalty and love between brothers, the misuse of power, the complex essence of bigotry, and the question of what makes a boy a man in our society.
Premiering at the Cannes Short Film Corner 2012 (Festival de Cannes), 'Outside Paradise' is the First Act of a Feature Film.
Where we are So Far...
We currently have the completed short film, which is being submitted to various festivals, both domestic and international. We recently got accepted into the CANNES SHORT FILM CORNER 2012 (FESTIVAL DE CANNES), where our film is going to be a WORLD PREMIERE. That was huge news to us, as we have really just begun submitting to festivals. We're incredibly excited. The sky is the limit. And other Film Festivals await!
Why we NEED Money and YOUR HELP!!!
Our Ultimate goal with the short version of Outside Paradise is to shop it around to various festivals in search of benefactors who are willing to fund the feature film. That's right, Our short film is only the FIRST PART OF A FULL LENGTH, FEATURE FILM.
We got into the Cannes Short Film Corner 2012!!! That was huge, exciting news. But frankly, it was a bit of a bummer when we found out how many THOUSANDS of DOLLARS it was actually going to cost us to fly to Nice France, Stay in a Hotel (or motel), and eat lunch and dinner in Cannes, France. Even if we just stayed for one week and sent only two people to represent our movie, we would still be paying roughly FIVE TO SIX Thousand U.S. Dollars. UNBELIEVABLE!!! So our objective is simple... We need our money for POST PRODUCTION COSTS. These costs include:
- TRAVEL COSTS: Help us pay for our Plane tickets, Car Rentals, Hotel Rooms, Food, and all those other amenities that will allow us to stay alive while representing our film to the world.
- FILM SUBMISSIONS: Every Film Festival costs money; luckily we'll be submitting to many of the Early Deadlines, which will save everyone money.
- EXHIBITION COPIES: Producing Exhibition Copies (i.e. transferring footage to HD Cams, Blu-Rays, DVDs, or whatever format a particular festival requires). We will also have to send these in by mail, which costs shipping and handling.
- POST PRODUCTION CREW FEES: This includes reimbursing the Executive Producers for certain funding that they had to cough up initially, for hiring a Sound Engineer/Mixer, Composer, Special Effects Artist, etc.
- PRODUCTION MATERIALS: Such as Posters, Postcards, Business Cards, and other marketing tools that we'll need when we head out to various film festivals.
I know we're only asking for $3,500, but the hard truth is, that's a lot of money to us and would help us take care a lot of the Post Production Costs, and hopefully allow us to represent our film (IN PERSON) to various Film Festivals.
SO PLEASE HELP US
All in all, Outside Paradise is a very cool Post-Apocalyptic Western with ten thousand narrative layers. Its not your typical run-of-the-mill Western. Its something really special. Think Sergio Leone's The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, meets Cormac MaCarthy's The Road, mixed with The Proposition and The Lord of the Flies. That's honestly the best way to describe it.
And our film is loaded with SERIOUS SOCIAL COMMENTARY (as all great science-fiction should be).
