Meattropolis was originally founded in 2079 by long term investor and business mogul, Henry Percival Piddleview, to create a safe living environment for his multitude of working staff. He lorded over a profitable textile industry and also had his fingers in many pies.

As the city engorged and grew, outsiders became attracted to it for its thriving economy and great smelling toast. He invented a new monetary exchange program in which simple land-dwellers could trade their boring, incoherent lives for those of dazzling urbanites.

I am building Meattropolis, a city far ahead of its time, out of plastic cast food items to create a large installation.  Its buildings and parks will all be sculpted by me out of the various foods I find, cook, and cast.  Its cake towers and patty skyscrapers will be the backdrop for my new series of videos as well as a stand alone sculpture installation that will be shown next year somewhere in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  In addition, I plan to create an online "Street View" style interactive gallery where visitors can tour the city without ever leaving their monitor!

I was generously granted the Clare Hart DeGolyer fund from the Dallas Museum of Art to start my project but quickly realized to work on the scale I want to, I need more funding.

I am using silicone and two part resin plastic to re-create existing food objects in the real world and reinterpret their meaning in my sculpture.  Floor by floor the city will rise, mirroring the consumption of modern industry and individuals with a cityscape.

The majority of the money will be used to purchase the plastic, silicone, paint for the pieces, and the foods to be cast.  The plastic is integral; the more plastic I can buy, the larger and more looming the city will become. 

I am planning on using spray paint, air brushing and hand painting methods to emphasize my style and the stylistic aspects of the city.

I hope to purchase an entire cow's leg to cook and cast.

egg rolls, steak, onions, loaf of bread, pineapple, garlic, casserole, ground beef, eggplant, egg, Cornish game hen, sushi, waffles, berries, pie, prawns, meringue cookies, cookies, broccoli, cabbage, artichoke, spam, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, chili peppers, cheese balls, fish, steak, cheeses, Swiss cheese, stacks of patties, ham, bologna, cakes, samosas, bananas, potatoes, chicken bits, shrimp, pecans, butter, doughnuts, burger, pizza, pears halved and in syrup, peas, edamame,  waffle fries, kebobs, meatloaf, angel food cake, celery, radish, turnip, olives, crackers, half a bagel, skate, pancakes, french fries, beans, won tons, cupcakes, mushrooms, hot wings, egg salad, cream cheese, cabbage, apples, ribs, lamb chop, rack of lamb, mashed potatoes...
