WREST is a collaboration between composer/performer Jules Gimbrone (me) and filmmaker Elliot Montague.
With your help, we are now ready to take the music of WREST into the studio and record a full-length album!

ABOUT WREST
Through experimental narrative, WREST explores the story of Joan of Arc as an archetypal representation of transformation. WREST depicts moments of imperative change housed within the queer body. Composer Jules Gimbrone and filmmaker Elliot Montague, create a dynamic 45-minute performance joining two artistic mediums – a live 7-piece music ensemble and projected single channel film. Montague’s film draws on saints and mythological figures to bend reality and lead his character through internal and environmental extremities. Gimbrone’s ensemble creates a symphonic landscape through a dramatic mash of polyrhythm, grand melodic gestures, abrasive sound textures, and primordial vocalizations.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
The music of WREST is over two years in the making. After our premier performance in May 2010, I took an extended break from the music due to health concerns. Because of this circumstance, we didn't have the chance to go into the studio and record. In hindsight, I see this break as a blessing. The timing is perfect...
Eight months ago I began to re-engage the music, add parts, edit and rearrange the music in anticipation to it becoming a full studio album.
Four months ago I found new kind and virtuosic players to add to our already incredible ensemble. We started rehearsing weekly.
Two months ago I was introduced to the studio engineer Jason LaFarge, and fell in love with his sound and his studio. Jason has recorded the brilliant sounds of SWANS, Akron/Family, and Angels of Light. We set dates for recording.

MAY 26th-31st - IN THE STUDIO with Jason LaFarge

JUNE 11th-30th - Combining finished music with film
JULY - RELEASE WREST INTO THE WORLD
