About this project
Resilience is a photography project created by Gregory Tapler.
My belief is too many men and women in the community overlook or dismiss the elderly. This photography project is a way for me to communicate my want for them to be honored and appreciated. The eyes of the elderly, along with the lines on their faces, tell the story of hardship, happiness, love, heartache, pain, joy, celebration, hope and faith. Through the years, they have experienced many things so many of us are going through today and we have so much to learn if we simply start the conversation.
My hope is that this project brings adults closer to their parents, children closer to their grandparents, members of society closer to the grandfathers and grandmothers in their community.
Resilience begins at a senior living facility in Bethlehem, PA. I have created a set of questions that I ask each subject. Their responses to the questions allow me to see a bit into their world. I follow them on their journey back in time and together we create images that capture their resilience and reflects the light within each and every one of them. Viewing the photographs (which are a welcoming 16"x24" portrait), you are offered an opportunity to stand, be still, and read the stories they have to tell.
The money being raised will be used for the printing and mounting of each of the 30 portraits. The opening of Resilience will be held where the project began, at the residence of the elders.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Please continue to follow the progression of the project and remember, next time you see an elder in your community, say hello – and start the conversation.

My name is Gregory and I am a photographer living in eastern Pennsylvania. I recently became a father and have realized I now see life through a different lens - a wider angle.
I'm a seeker. I believe that love is a good thing and the world can use more of it. I also believe that people are much stronger than they give themselves credit for.
I have learned through years of living and seeking that community is one of the strongest forces in my life. When I'm stuck, when I'm trapped in the illusions I've created, I use my community to help me see - to help me grow.
I have also learned that if I cannot laugh at myself, I have difficulty finding humor in the world. If you see me laughing, and you're not sure why, it's probably something about me :)
