The Launch Party

Update #12 · Jul 11, 2012 · 1 comment

Hi everyone,

By now, everyone who was expecting a package should have received it. The only rewards not yet mailed are going to folks who are expecting the Expansion set. That is currently in queue with the printer. I expect to have them in hand for mailing in roughly two weeks. So we're definitely progressing. maybe even a little ahead of schedule.

I hope that you all have had a chance to play the game. If you have any questions please check out mad.popestreet.com. Whenever we encounter a confusing point or ambiguity, we post it to the FAQs. And certainly feel free to message me with any questions. Mad Science The Card Game is also on Facebook, so you can tap us there as well.

The big announcement for today is the Launch Party. It will be happening on Saturday July 21st at Alterniverse in Salt Point. It is pretty close to Poughkeepsie if that helps anyone not from the Hudson Valley to pinpoint the location. For the locals, Alterniverse recently moved and are now located one door down from the excellent restaurant La Puerta Azul. The street address is 2510 Route 44 in Salt Point, NY 12578.

The party is at 4pm and we will have refreshments, door prizes, game instruction and a friendly competition with prizes. There's Yu Gi Oh in the early afternoon and Magic The Gathering in the evening so it will be a full day of gaming with Mad Science smack in the middle. I'll be there early, so please come by and say Hi. And if anyone is thinking about traveling by train, let me know and we can arrange a pick up at the Poughkeepsie train station.

I really hope some of you can make it so I can offer another big thank you in person.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Thanks again,

Drew

Dealing With It

Update #11 · Jun 28, 2012 · 1 comment

We had a delay!

Unfortunately, we had a problem with our initial shipment from the printer. En route, there was some rough handling and we received a lot of damaged card boxes. We got those replaced, but I ended up having to go through several decks by hand and repackage. I counted something like 10,000 cards and repacked nearly a hundred boxes, but we’re back on track.

Here's the good news - I shipped about half of the rewards yesterday afternoon by Priority Mail. If all goes well, many of you should have your goodies in hand by the weekend. I think next Tuesday at the latest. I shipped most of the $25 rewards, $40 rewards and $65 rewards.

I did not ship the international rewards yet - I got some additional info about the best ways to ship packages of this relative size and I just need to secure some appropriately-sized boxes. If I am able to get enough boxes today, those will all go out tomorrow. Failing that, they will ship Monday at the very latest. Depending on your location it will be somewhere between 4 and 10 days for delivery.

What didn't ship: Anyone getting an Expansion set (except the $65 folks who paid for an extra shipment) will have to wait a couple of weeks until I get the Expansions printed. Since I originally slated these for August delivery, if all goes well you will get your goodies in July.

The one exception is for anyone who is able to attend the launch party. If you can make it to the launch, I will give you everything I have on hand and just ship the Expansion when it is ready.

Here's the other thing about the Expansion - my original plan was to send the "Kicked Up To Six" Expansion to everyone. This one adds Parts to the game to facilitate up to 6 (or even more) players. The thing is, I have been working a lot on the second Expansion that adds Accessories to the game. Accessories are a whole new layer of complexity and add some really interesting new elements.

So here's what I decided to do - I printed a short run of the first Expansion and I'm going to give that to everyone as promised. In fact, because of the damage delay, I was able to get those at the same time as the replacement boxes. So the folks who are getting two shipments will already be getting the first Expansion with their deck.

In the next couple of weeks, when I finalize the Accessories deck and get it printed, everyone who made a pledge including the Expansion will also get the Accessories deck. And those expecting a second shipment will also, of course, get the Accessories deck sent at that time. Think of it as a happy little appreciation bonus.

Deckboxes - here's another note, for those of you receiving deckboxes. I was, after all, able to get white boxes. I discovered something, however. I had signed and sketched on a box for a friend about a month ago. He had a demo deck in the box and was showing the game to just about everyone he encountered. Unfortunately, the great Sharpie marker writing is not holding up too well. Especially on the back and sides where the box gets handled the most, a lot of the writing has rubbed off.

We talked about covering the writing with packing tape or something, but I thought that would make the boxes look kind of weird. Instead I contained my sketching to the front of the deck box and signed it in a spot that gets covered by the front flap when the box is closed. I find that I really never need to touch the front of the box. It is just as east to hold it on the sides, back against my palm. I recommend this if you want to preserve the sketch and still use the box. Or you can cover it with packing tape. It's your box.

I just realized that while I had dozens of rewards laid out in an orderly fashion on top of the ping pong table I never took a picture. D'oh! That would have been cool to send. Oh well.

Last thing - we are still working on the Launch Party, but right now it looks like it will probably be the weekend of July 21 (Saturday). I'm not sure if we will host the main event on Saturday or Sunday (July 22) but we will probably have Mad Science The Card Game goodies and games going on both days, at least for a little while.

Everyone is invited and there will be games, shirts, stickers, special cards and such goodies available. At some point we will have refreshments, music, and possibly even a visit from the Skateboard Heroes. If you are interested in attending and need directions to Alterniverse (they just moved... across the street) send me a message.

We have several friends in the NYC area, so if anyone wants to take Metro North to Poughkeepsie, we can arrange a little shuttle action as well - we just need to coordinate times. If you are interested, let me know.

Thank you for reading this massive update. If you have any questions about your shipment, whether or not is was sent, or anything else, do not hesitate to contact me. When you get your deck, you may have questions about gameplay, shoot me a line and we'll work it out. If you want to come to the Launch Party (and KS pledgers will definitely be guests of honor!) let me know.

Again, thank you everyone for your support. This has been a load of fun and I feel like we're just getting started.

Talk to you soon!

The order is with the printer!

Update #10 · Jun 3, 2012 · comment

Hey friends,

I just wanted to send a quick update to let you all know that Mad Science The Card Game has been ordered! Yes, I have a massive order in with the printer. Contributions should be cleared by Amazon Payments in another 7 days and then I'll be able to pay off the massive credit card bill.

Further good news is that the printer has finally gotten through a huge backlog of jobs and is projecting a speedier than usual turnaround. I was concerned that it might take a month to get the order printed because of their backlog, but it looks like we will have cards much sooner. I am planning to ship all rewards immediately by priority mail to the US, so if all goes well, you should have your packages by the end of June as I'd originally planned. There is an International Priority mail service that I am going to try to use as well, so my overseas friends should be getting their stuff only a couple days later.

I have held off on sending surveys because I found out I can only send them once. I wanted to have a more solid idea of when I could ship rewards just in case someone is planning a move or something like that. Now that everything is ordered, and I can see the printer is in a better place, I plan to send surveys in the next couple of days.

Depending on your pledge, surveys will be looking for your sponsor info for the site, location (I'd like a general location to show where our sponsors are located - if that is okay with you), mailing address and t-shirt size (if your pledge included one).

Oh yeah, t-shirts and stickers have also been ordered. I love stickers.

And everyone who is getting a package - I also bought four bricks of different colored six sided dice, so everyone will get dice in their package as well. A very small thank you bonus.

Last thing - I finished up the special edition card I will be signing for everyone. I included a Kickstarter medallion to make it extra special. I am only printing about 50 of these so they will be super limited. Here is a preview of the art:

I think that is all for now. I'm headed to a 3 year old's birthday party, and later will be putting the finishing touches on the Expansion Set.

Thanks again to all of you. Keep an eye out for those surveys, and I will send another update when the Mad Science decks are in hand.

This is the fun part!

Update #9 · May 27, 2012 · 2 comments

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty busy day in the life of these Mad Scientists, but the evening brought a HUGE surprise. We closed out the Kickstarter project with just over $2000, 133% of our goal. How awesome is that?

And now the real fun begins.

In the next couple days we will be finalizing our requirements with the card printer to get the process started printing all these new decks. We'll also be running the first test of the expansion set that will be available about a month after the decks are released. We'll also be placing our order for t-shirts and stickers and maybe a few fun little extras so we can put together some really bangin' reward packages.

When we have more information from our various printers and vendors we will share so you can plan for your deliveries and your own personal game nights. We're also talking about the Mad Science The Card Game launch party in a few weeks. Once we have the date, anyone who can make it to the Hudson Valley in NY is invited!

Our launch will be at the greatest card and gaming shop in New York, Alterniverse, where we received a ton of support from the owners, staff and patrons. Last night, I understand there was even an unofficial pre-release game of Mad Science being played with one of our prototype demo decks. So cool.

One more thing - in the next day or so I will be sending a questionnaire (once I figure out how) to get important details like mailing address, how to list your name on our Sponsors website, t-shirt size, etc. So, look for that.

Anyway, though this is the end of the Kickstarter campaign it is just the beginning of the next phase for this game. So let me extend one more heartfelt thank you to all of our supporters. Mad Science The Card Game started as a silly little idea bandied about with my family, and now it has grown into something really real.

Hooray!

Talk to you soon,

Drew

More Media!

Update #8 · May 22, 2012 · comment

The folks at Right This Second just posted our Free Comic Book Day talk. It's fun and informative and I bet you'll get a chuckle when you listen. We mostly talk about Mad Science The Card Game with a short though chuckle-filled Skateboard Heroes tangent.

We only have 4 days to go, and we're only a couple hundred bucks away, so please share this link and this project with your family and friends if you haven't already. I know a couple people who are still sitting on the fence. We only need a handful of those fence-sitters to make this a Mad Science fueled reality!

Once again, thank you so much for your support and believing in our little project.

Talk to you soon!
