ELEVATE DANCE

On May 11, 2011, I will premier my newest work, beginning of something, at the Chocolate Factory in Long Island City, Queens.  I have been in the process of making this new work for over a year.  I started with simple walking patterns that evolved into a complex dance referencing folk dance, ballet, minimalism and post-post modern performance concerns. This is the part of the work we call the "dance within the dance," and it eventually became the work's second section.   In the first section of the work, I attempt 'portraits' of each of the four female performers;  the twist is that I try to imagine each of the women in a previous life. 

My dances often take place in a specific environment that I meticulously create.  beginning of something will take place on a long, narrow elevated platform situated inside the Chocolate Factory's performance space, with the audience surrounding the platform in extremely close proximity.  The 16' x 40' elevated platform is being built just for this event; it will raise the dancers 15" above the seating of the audience and provide a resonant surface for the dance.  My Kickstarter campaign is focused on raising $4,000, the amount needed to build this platform.
