About this project

This 5500 mile, 4 month Arctic expedition is a major polar bear research effort sponsored by Bears Unlimited. It will also be the first complete Mackenzie River to Yukon River connection accomplished in a small 16 foot boat, Hay River, on the Mackenzie River will be the starting point with Whitehorse on the Yukon River the finish. I will head north to Banks Island upon entering the Beaufort Sea. Here I will video and still photograph the Beaufort Sea subgroup of polar bears. I will also collect ice, weather and climate change data. Once this 20 day section of the expedition is completed I will head to Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Here I will spend a week backpacking with caribou, brown bears, wolves and the ultimate in wilderness. After ANWR is explored, photographed and data collected I will land in Barrow, Alaska to resupply and rest a couple of days.
My next resupply will be in Kotzebue on the Bering Sea. Between Barrow and Kotzebue I will traverse the Arctic Ocean and the northern Bering Sea. This will be sporty and difficult and an extreme adventure. It will also be fun and exciting. I will perform photographic studies as well as data collection on this leg.
Once I resupply in Kotzebue a 500 mile leg on the Bering Sea will be cruised to Nome. Between these two towns I will research the shore and inland areas and continue collecting data, video and still photography.
After Nome the last 500 miles of the Bering Sea will be traversed and then I enter the Yukon River. Whitehorse will be enjoyed after 2500 miles of river travel.
