We have prepared a new Rulebook release for Hoplo: TLC! Here is the downloadable PDF but I've also listed the changes below so you don't have to go through the whole thing looking for the differences. :)
Here they are in no particular order!
Draw phase moved to end of turn
We feel this will speed up game play even more by allowing people to see what they are getting next and plan while the other player(s) make their moves.
Crowd Favor Tactics (white) when earned now have their own separate prep area
CFT will be stored exclusively on the 3 circles below the prep area. If all 3 circles are filled and you earn another, you must discard one! These chips do not move up and fill the City Prep area circles when there is an opening. Similar to before, a player must always start their turn with at least 4 of their 7 total prep area circles filled. If fewer than 4, your Champion takes 2 damage immediately.
Through continued play testing and reactions from live play at conventions and demos, it was important to keep these prep areas separate to clear up the “tactic lock” situations that many new or inexperienced players were finding themselves in. We believe it strengthens play overall and have chosen to write it in for good.
Fury Aura nerf: 1 dmg to a single adj unit (during move phase)
Enraged Fury Aura nerf: 1 dmg to a single unit up to 2 hexes away (during move phase)
This nerf on the El Dorado ability is also to assist with beginner game play as this unit seems to overwhelm new player opponents before they understand the more involved abilities of the other cities. More importantly, this nerf was to prepare and balance El Dorado for our expansions and boosters in RoR.
You may play 1 Gladiator and 1 Tactic per turn (includes CF Tactics and Gladiators)
This was our biggest change and is actually a move back to a rule we once had in the game. This will speed up game play slightly and aid in allowing tactics to be used how we originally intended. We want “combos” to be possible once again.
We hope you enjoy these changes and look forward to sending more updatess soon! Thanks!
