About this project
This story truly inspired me, and I want to share my vision of it with as many people as possible. I am using a variety of different techniques to create a short CG film that has the feeling of a graphic novel come-to-life ... more 2½D than typical 3D animation. Using richly designed and highly detailed 3D character models and environments, images will be beautifully rendered and 'filmed' with a virtual 3D camera. Atmospheric effects like lens flares, steam, dust and sunbeams, etc., along with other special effects will help add depth and texture to each scene; camera movements and focal lengths will also provide a distinctive cinematic look.
The film is wonderfully narrated by author Neil Gaiman (a real treat in and of itself), who has been highly supportive of this project right from my first email (over 4 years ago). My hope is to finish by spring/summer of 2011 and to enter "The Price" in several film festivals.
The money raised through Kickstarter will be used to create all of the designs, high-end 3D models, original music, special effects & titles, as well as for the process of combining all of these elements: rendering, compositing, sound design and editing. There are also hardware and software needs in order for me to create everything at high resolution (2K) so that the finished film will be able to screen theatrically.

Growing up in the small town of Vernon, British Columbia, I dreamt of making movies and worked hard to develop multiple skill-sets to accomplish that goal. From the age of 5, I read like crazy and started writing lengthy fantasy stories by the 4th grade. I taught myself to draw, paint and sculpt, and from there began to create latex masks and creatures. I started making movies when I was 9, beginning with my dad's Super 8 camera, and eventually working up to using ¾" Video editing systems in high school to learn how to tell a story cinematically. And I watched movies ... by the ton.
As a kid I was always drawn to genre films & TV: from "2001" to "Star Trek" to "Star Wars;" from "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" to "Night Gallery" to "Halloween;" from "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" to "Return of the Dragon" to "Raiders" ...
After broadening my film appreciation in college, I used my abilities in art and directing to become (big surprise) an Art Director/Creative Director for several companies, and eventually worked for many years in the video game industry. Now I own and operate my own creative media company, hang-out with my amazing family and mountain bike quite a bit ... and every day, I still dream about making movies.
