About this project

Friends,

Thank you for visiting our Kickstarter page! For those of you just getting to know the project, welcome! For those who have been wonderful enough to support us in the past – WELCOME BACK! We are honored and humbled to have your continued interest and support.

As you may know, the Yale Alumni Magazine’s cover story “Why They Call Yale the Gay Ivy” sparked a furor among its readers, igniting a larger controversy about homophobia, tradition and the generational divide in our country today. Out of this vehement and diverse alumni response was born "The Gay Ivy," a musical theater piece featuring the work of more than a dozen writers and composers. The resulting chorus of voices is a collage of different perspectives, interweaving monologue, song, movement and projections.

We first performed a reading of "The Gay Ivy” in October at Shetler Studios, but have now also had successful shows at New York's fantastic downtown performance laboratory Dixon Place and twice at the Slifka Center at Yale, during Pride month and Reunions. We are pleased to announce that we have been invited back to Dixon Place as part of the Hot! Festival on July 14th! We need your help!

We will use funds to rent rehearsal space, pay our artists and continue to work toward developing the show to take it on the road. We are most grateful for your contribution, whatever amount. Time is of the essence, and every dollar counts!

In any case, we hope that you are able to join us for this encore performance on July 14th. “The Gay Ivy” is a show about Yale, but it’s also about our country, our history, and our culture. By giving voice to disparate perspectives on gayness at Yale, we hope to stimulate broader discussion about equality and love throughout society today. Join us!
