Kids, ages 4-10 build confidence and literacy in the Sierra Foothills doing Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". They love it!
Picture a tiny town in the Sierra Foothills. Many families have lost their jobs. Some have lost their homes. And we are doing Shakespeare!
Children ages 4-10 have worked and played in the forest above a local community center for one year to prepare their voices and their hearts to do Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for our community. This is a tradition that has been happening here, with different Shakespeare plays, for twenty years. We have seen kids rise up from our little town to go to Stanford, to UC Berkeley, to Princeton, and we are convinced that they are partly saved by doing Shakespeare.
What we have is a community center, with a large rock and a tall oak. We have a parking lot and a highway, and we have little kids trying to do a play.
What we need are some poles, and some curtains to hang around the little plot of ground to create a small theatre space, so the children’s voices don’t get lost in the forest or the highway.
We also need some fabric to make some new fairy costumes.
Curtains and Costumes! That’s what we need.
This way, we can do our beautiful production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
