A father retreats from the modern world, finding solace in colonial reenactment
One If By Land is Charlotte Hornsby's senior thesis film for New York University. The story follows Benton Doe, an antiquated English teacher as he tries to prove his legitimacy to his eight-year-old son, Benji. When Benji was little, the two loved to go see colonial reenactments. But as Benji enters middle school, his dad senses his growing embarrassment about these trips. When Benton finds himself with an empty school bus, he tries to arrange a final trip with Benji to rekindle their connection. Yet the son senses this may not be the only reason for the trip.
