About this project
I am about to shoot a feature film in Chiapas, Mexico (the film is in English except for a few lines in Spanish and in Tzotzil, a Mayan language) and I am trying to raise money for the completion of the film shoot and for post-production (editing, sound editing, music). The film is a supernatural thriller about a couple from New York who travel to Chiapas and have an encounter with a shape-shifting witch who is connected to them through events in the distant past which they are unaware of. This encounter changes their lives forever. The film will be shot in various beautiful locations across the state, including the Mayan ruins of Palenque, the waterfalls of Agua Azul, the Sumidero canyon, the Indian village of Zinacantán, the jungle, and the town of San Cristobal de las Casas. The writer and director is Eva Aridjis (The Favor, Saint Death, Children of the Street), the line producer is Sandra Solares (Y Tú Mamá También, El Infierno, Kilometro 31), and the score will be composed by Jim Thirlwell (FOETUS). Allison Case (Hair, Mamma Mia, Nurse Jackie) and Zachary Booth (Taking Woodstock, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Darkhorse) will play the lead characters, and the acclaimed Mexican actress Ofelia Medina will play the witch. We already have most of the money we need to shoot, we only need an extra $20,000 to complete production and $30,000 for post-production. We start shooting the film November 22nd and shoot until December 21st. Post-production will start in January 2011 and take place in New York City. The film will be in the style of Roman Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby" and Nicolas Roeg's "Don't Look Now". The film will also feature the Tzotzil Indian community of Chiapas and many animals, such as dogs and a variety of birds. We have the full support of the Tzotzil Indians and the Chiapas government for the making of this film. A VIDEO WILL BE UPLOADED VERY SOON!

Eva Aridjis grew up in Mexico City and then attended Princeton University, where she received a B.A. in Comparative Literature. Upon graduation from Princeton she went into New York University’s M.F.A. program in Film and TV and made four short films, including the documentary “Taxidermy: The Art of Imitating Life” (official selection at the Sundance Film Festival 1999), the fiction film “Billy Twist” (official selection at the Sundance Film Festival 2000), and “The Passenger” (winner of a Warner Brothers Pictures Film Production Award and a Screen Gems Award). She received her M.F.A. in 2001.
After NYU Eva made a feature documentary entitled “Children of the Street” (“Niños de la Calle”), about four street kids living in Mexico City. “Children of the Street” was nominated for 2 Mexican Academy Awards (Arieles) in the categories of Best Feature Documentary and Best First Feature and won the Best Documentary Feature prize at the Morelia International Film Festival in 2003.
Eva completed her first narrative feature, “The Favor”, in 2006. It is a drama starring Frank Wood and Ryan Donowho and tells the story of a troubled, orphaned teenager and the man who adopts him. “The Favor” had its World Premiere at the CineVegas Film Festival in June 2006 where it received a prize, and Ryan Donowho also received the “Best Actor” prize at the San Diego Film Festival for his role in the film. “The Favor” was released theatrically in Mexico in 2007 and in the U.S. in 2008 and is currently airing on the Sundance Channel.
Eva’s second feature documentary, “La Santa Muerte” (“Saint Death”) is about a religious cult in Mexico. The film is narrated by Gael García Bernal and premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June 2007. The film is being distributed by Seventh Art Releasing.
Eva is currently preparing her next narrative feature which will be shot in Mexico and teaching Screenwriting at the Graduate Film and TV department at New York University.
