"The After Party" is a documentary about a journalist whose videotape led to a civil rights lawsuit and uncovered a police spying ring.
"The After Party" is a documentary feature film about a journalist who was caught in a mass arrest while filming a protest at Ground Zero. His film crew's videotape of the incident led to a civil rights lawsuit and uncovered the illegal tactics of a police spying ring. The case is still in the courts, and the plot continues to thicken.

"The After Party" A funny thing happened on the way to the convention.
In August of 2004, during the course of the Republican National Convention in New York City, over 1800 people were arrested. The police used orange construction netting to surround large groups of people gathered in public places, arresting every single person caught inside the net. Along with protestors, many innocent bystanders were caught, arrested and detained at an old bus depot on the Hudson River and at Central Booking in Manhattan, some for up to 60 hours. A documentary film crew working on a film about Andre 3000 of "Outkast" was caught in one of these nets and arrested, while filming a protest on Fulton Street at Ground Zero. The film crew’s tape became instrumental evidence in a lawsuit that was filed by the ACLU against the City of New York on behalf of Andre’s film crew-member Michael Schiller.
Michael Schiller et all versus the City of New York is a landmark first amendment case. Through this case we have learned how extensive the penetration and disruption of activist action really was, the lawsuit uncovered an international police spying operation and the tactics of a city police department that answers to no one, not even the federal government.
Our film, “The After Party” chronicles this historic civil rights lawsuit from the inside. We started out with Andre 3000’s first steps to learn about and participate in American politics and we ended up uncovering frightening evidence of “a big brother” operation, the scope of which is still unknown. This story is still unfolding, the case is still in the courts. We've followed the case closely, cameras rolling, and are right at the center of the story.
We have interviews with police, reporters, civil rights lawyers, political organizers and cameos from Andre "3000" Benjamin, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, The Bush Twins, P Diddy, Al Sharpton, Cornell West, Don King and many others. The film is almost done, but we need your help to finish.
The majority of the film has been shot, and we are 4 months in to the edit. I have been funding the film entirely out of pocket and just need to raise enough to get to the finish line. We have the sound mixing studio, the graphics house and the music licensing ready to go. We are still seeking a distributor, press opportunities, festivals, broadcasters and venues that might want to support or screen this project, if you know someone, please let us know; everything helps the cause.
Be part of the movement: We'll keep you updated as the plot unfolds and keep you posted every step of the way as we lock the picture, mix the sound, do the graphics and hit the festival circuit. Every dollar pledged will go towards the completion of "The After Party". Any amount, small, medium, large or extra large or helps the cause of getting this story told. Thank you deeply for your interest and support, we really appreciate it.
