About this project

Flyway started as an idea out of the monthly film program at the Lake Pepin Art & Design Center in Pepin, Wisconsin nearly four years ago. With every filmmaker that we'd bring to town remarking on how the area would be perfect for an intimate, high quality festival.

Over the past two years we've brought over 40 filmmakers into our community for Flyway and in addition to screening the fabulous films they bring along we've become a unique venue for filmmakers to network and discuss projects and the "state of the industry" in the film world. Last year's free exchange of ideas was steered by Brian Newman formerly the CEO of Robert DeNiro's Tribeca Film Festival and now of Springboard Media.

This year we will host Kelley Baker, known as "the Angry Filmmaker", in a similar format of discussion among attending filmmakers and other interested festival goers. Kelley was the sound designer for such films as Gus Van Zandt's My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting as well as Todd Hayne's Far From Heaven which starred Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore, before he left Hollywood to pursue a career of making his own independent films.

Our community is filled with artists and crafts people, and the area dotted with outstanding cafes and B&B's. The perfect day or weekend trip from the Twin Cities or vacation spot for folks from farther away.

Our niche in the film world is this- Small venues, with high quality projection and superior sound. And a unique environment where film lovers and filmmakers can interact like nowhere else.
