Just a quick note to all. Since we have secured an alternative source of funding, we've decided to cancel the Kickstarter project.

      Thanks!

All rewards will get Free Shiping - Worldwide.

      Thanks!

As a long time amateur game designer and worldsmith, I loved this idea and just had to support it. Times are tough, and I would love to have been able to pledge more, but I look forward to the finished product. I'm intrigued to see how your world will separate itself out from the pack. Not too long ago I sent the people at Paizo an email critiquing Kingmaker for doing nothing innovative and told them I was sick to death of Middle Earth Clones with 24 hour days, 7 day weeks, 12 month years, single moons, civilized and cultured wood-loving elves, cave dwelling mine-loving dwarves, and evil brutish orcs... to go along with a culture 90% human (typically the only race with any significant cultural drift). I don't know how much of that tiny micro-rant applies to Trexlin, but I'm prepared, especially after seeing your update, to hope for at least one or two things that are a little outside Tolkien's box.

BTW: their response was "People are Comfortable with what they know" to which the unspoken corollary is "So why should we bother to innovate."

      Good Luck.

Thanks for addressing my questions. And yeah, it seems you're avoiding a lot of the cliches common to fantasy settings. Which is a good thing in my mind. I also like moral ambiguity and the lack of good guys/bad guys.

I'll be looking forward to the upcoming info. =)

Thanks for the comments! I know exactly what you are saying. Many settings do seem interchangeable - sharing the same overarching themes, stories, plot devices.
I'm not suggesting that some of these don't make for a good adventure - but, what we are doing with Trexlin is trying to provide a foundation with more color and more shades of gray. For example, we don't have an inherently good Kingdom and an powerful evil kingdom locked in an endless struggle. Rather, we have cities, countries, kingdoms, and empires - all of which find themselves held in high regard by some, feared or hated by others, and held inconsequential by still others.
We are attempting to create a cohesive setting, with reason behind why things are as they are.
What we don't have in Trexlin are fair-skin elven bowman sequestered away in their forests; hairy-footed halflings eating, drinking and thieving; tinkering gnomes; cannon-fodder orcs; a big black tower with a supreme evil wizard out to control the lands; a doddering old wizard who can save the land in time of peril; an undead army poised to swarm the land; a rift between planes that threatens to destroy civilization; or any number of other "generic" fantasy cliches.
Again, I'm not suggesting that some of these can't make memorable settings and fun gaming sessions - and, with the World of Trexlin - while these things aren't detailed in the setting, there is nothing that says a GM couldn't add them -after all, the purpose is to provide a tool for the GM. However, what we are trying to do is to bring a fresh setting, with a dynamic and developed feel to it, as a foundation for GMs.

We have a lot of information we are going to be posting as we count down to funding. Some of it will be posted for all - and a lot of it will be private posts for project backers.
Plans, at least at present, include posting snapshots of the following over the next couple of weeks:

A primer on the Zanne Race

Brief history of the Quem

Overview of the Principalities of Rallen

Introduction to the economy of the Federation of Coastal States

      Thanks for your interest!

The Trexlin geography lesson was nice. But some more details would be great -- whe got the macro, now I want the micro. All these peoples you alluded to... what are they like? Can you give us snapshots of a couple of your kingdoms, races or groups? What makes them stand out? What's interesting about them?

No doubt you've put a great deal of work and effort into your setting. But I want to know more about it, and I'm sure other readers do. Fantasy settings tend to blur together after a while, the same struggles and tropes trotted out again and again. I'm not saying this is true of yours, since I've seen so little. And that's what I'm saying, I guess. What makes Trexlin stand out and deserve attention, what elements make it stand out from all the other richly detailed fantasy game settings out there? Please let us know. =)

I wish you luck in your endeavors, and I hope to see more.
