A new full-length ballet based on a 10th century Japanese folktale. A collaborative project by local artists, dancers and musicians.
Thank you for visiting our project website! We are a newly formed professional ballet company in the Dallas area here to revive the art of classical ballet and bring the visual and performing arts together. This is our final KickStarter to fully fund our project.
DALLAS NEO-CLASSICAL BALLET:
Our goal as a company is to provide a positive and supportive environment for dancers and artists striving to create art in Dallas. At the same time, we know that there is lots of love and support to receive from the city of Dallas, if only they had a classical company to call their own. That is the void we are working to fill. www.dallasneo-classicalballet.com
Kaguya-Hime will be our first full-length ballet as a company. The plot for our ballet comes from a 10th century Japanese folktale entitled, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. This is considered the oldest extant Japanese narrative.
This transcendent story follows the life of Kaguya-Hime, the Moon Princess. Sent to Earth as an infant, she is found by the Bamboo Cutter, Taketori no Okina. He raises Kaguya-Hime as his own and when she is grown, introduces her to society. Taken aback by her extraordinary beauty, princes flock to her and try to win her over. Even the Emperor himself attempts to gain her affections but to no avail, as Kaguya-Hime's heart belongs to the moon.
KAGUYA-HIME IN THE MAKING:
DNCB has the pleasure of collaborating with local artist, Gregory Ruppe and fashion designers, Misako Kushibe and Kennetha Woods on this project. In addition, we have many amazing dancers excited to get into the studio and start rehearsing! There is so much that goes into creating a performance such as this, and so many dedicated professionals who donate their time, energy and talents to making it stage worthy. Our goal with KickStarter is to give back to these artists and dancers and give them what they deserve.
Please consider making a donation today to help with costumes, set design and stipends for our dancers and artists.
If we fail to meet our goal of $4,000 all donations will be returned.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS:
Kickstarter is a way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors. Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands. In other words, if we don’t raise our goal of $4,000, we lose everything. Once we have reached our goal we will contact you to get your address and then we will start working on getting you your reward(s).
HOW TO PLEDGE:
Just click the green “Back This Project” button in the upper right-hand corner or on the little weird green things in each pledge box. You will be asked to input your pledge amount and select a reward. From there, you will go through the Amazon checkout process. You must finish the Amazon checkout process for your pledge to be recorded.
WHAT IF WE DON'T REACH OUR GOAL?
If funding fails, all pledges are canceled and that's that. Your card is not charged, it’s like nothing ever happened. Please donate today to keep this from happening!
