Whispers in the basement bars around the neighborhood. Kids, terrified, telling trembling tales in tents in the yard...He's out there.
We're The Debate Society and we're currently finishing development of our seventh full-length work, Blood Play. Blood Play will premiere at the OBIE-winning theater The Bushwick Starr in Brooklyn on October, 3rd, 2012.
About Blood Play.
Blood Play is set in the tranquil Chicago suburb of Skokie in the 1950's. The War is over and Jewish families are moving from the South Side and settling in brand new ranch houses in brand new neighborhoods. Everyone has a lawn, a couple of kids, a bar for entertaining in their basement...BUT...things are happening...that no one is talking about. And something is stirring underground.
Blood Play is a thriller of sorts, focusing on fear mongering, rumor in communities and how terrifying our capacity to believe can be. It's dark and mysterious and also very funny.
Blood Play is being supported by a project grant (for the play) and a fellowship (for co-creator Hannah Bos) from the Six Points Fellowship, which supports artists who create new work that explores Jewish ideas and experience. The play was created in part at a Clubbed Thumb/Playwright Horizons SuperLab and during residencies at Ars Nova and The Bushwick Starr.
What we need.
We are asking for your help to raise $5000 to help build the set of Blood Play. Part of the play takes place in a basement bar in a ranch house and part of the play takes place in the backyard- under the cover of night. These are two VERY different sets. We want a home bar with all the trimmings- wood paneling, tahitian decor, classic pattern linoleum- and outside we need grass, trees, water. It will be a feat to put these worlds together, and will only be possible with your help. The Debate Society is a 501(c)(3) organization; so all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Thanks!! We are grateful for your support.
