Hello my amazing friends!
Yesterday was a big day! We started the actual recording process in the morning by mapping out the arrangements and recording scratch guitars and vocals. (For the non-musicians out there, scratches are tracks that we'll use as guidelines but replace later) So I had a full and fun day of that, then went to a little jazz gig playing duets with a pianist friend of mine.
Now that the scratches are done, we'll move on to recording the drums on Thursday. Can't wait for Jacob (the drummer and producer of the record) to do his thing, he's fantastic as you'll hear soon enough! Once we have the drums done we'll do a lot of layering and build the songs over the next month. If you're wondering why it took this long to get the recording process started, it was just a matter of my schedule and Jacob's schedule and finding times that worked for both of us.
Getting in the studio was really exciting, I can't wait to spend the next several months in that world. Having the chance to focus on my music and make another cd is an incredible blessing and I thank you for it. This is what I live for!!
Before I go, I'll tell you a story from the other day. I took my car in for maintenence last week, and I decided to get brunch while I was waiting. I walked over to a very cool restaurant called Noshville Deli, where lots of musicians like to hang out. So I'm just sitting there eating my eggs when, I kid you not, ROBERT PLANT walked in and sat down two tables away from me. Yes, the Robert Plant who was the lead singer of Led Zeppelin. Yes, the Robert Plant who's voice was the soundtrack of my high-school and college years. I've seen a number of celebrities since I moved here, and I'm good about keeping my cool. But this time I was legitimately star-struck!! He was sitting with someone that I know, so as I was leaving I briefly said hi to them. I don't know if that counts as meeting him, but I've definitely pestered Robert Plant. Now that that's off my bucket list I can move on to climbing K2 and working on my 6-pack....
Now that things are really moving I'll be in touch with you more often! This will be a lot of fun and I'll be sure to take photos and videos to share with you. Talk to you soon!
Hello my amazing friends!
Hello you beautiful people!
I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day, and no matter what your relationship status is, you are certainly loved!
I’m writing to you in good spirits because I just came back from a dinner party with some awesome new musician friends. The evening turned to an interesting game combining charades and taboo, and we inevitably ended up playing songs for each other :)
I feel like this update has been a long time coming, but I wanted to have some news for you before I wrote to you. A few days ago I had a great meeting with my producer, Jacob (who you’ll know well by the time this is over) and we talked about the direction of the record and which of my songs would be included.
Choosing the songs is a funny thing, because I can’t include all the ones I’ve written over the last year and a half. Especially with only a handful of songs, we have to choose carefully to make a well-rounded, cohesive record. So Jacob and I just hung out at his house, I played him a bunch of songs, and we tossed around ideas. Jam all afternoon and make my songs the best they can be? Sign me up!
I feel like we made a lot of good decisions that day and got on the same page with the project. The songs are in a great place, and I really believe we’ll come away with a powerful album. Because of our schedules, recording will begin in the 3rd week of March. I couldn’t be more pumped about it, and I’ll definitely be giddy when the first sessions draw near :) I’ll spend the next month thinking about what the songs should become and learning to perform them the absolute best I can.
I know I’ve said it already, but I want to thank you all again for making this happen. Because of you, my story gets to continue and I can start the next chapter with what I love so much, music. I am deeply humbled and grateful.
I’ll stay in touch with updates and let you know how the process is going. Good things are happening, and more good things await us!

Hello to all you wonderful people!
I played a house concert last night in Denton, at the home of my friends the Currans. It was great to be back in the little D, and since so many of my good friends were there it was more like a family reunion. I really had a blast, and if you were there, thanks for showing up!
I've been hanging out in Dallas for the last several days. I've been recording and playing with my friend Curtis, and that's been fun. It really is a blessing to be able to travel around and play instruments for a living, and I never take that for granted!
It's also a tremendous blessing to be able to record my own songs and for people to listen to them. You are that blessing and I'm so grateful for you!
The Kickstarter is doing great, and we're in the final stretch. There's about $1,300 left to raise, and 5 days to do it. I think we can make it! Please continue to spread the word in this crucial phase!
Thanks again for your support and for believing in me.
PS Here's a pic from the concert last night!
Just a quick note, we've reached 50% funded, and I'm thrilled about that! I'm a little wiped from a long drive (I just arrived in Dallas from Nashville) but I found this good news when I got in, and now I'm resting in the company of some really dear friends. It's a satisfying end to a long day.
You've probably noticed there are only 10 days left to raise the rest. Please help me spread the word for the home stretch! Sending the project along to a few close friends can really go a long way.
I'm so grateful to you! I'll be in touch soon. With love,
