Winter Update #2

Update #14 · Jan 4, 2013 · 2 comments

Happy New Year! I have some good news. The colors for The Beast of Wolfe's Bay are now complete. The letters are over half complete. I still need to do the pinup art for the back of the book and figure out some page layout and content stuff, but I am confident that I will be able to send the book to print sometime in February. We are right on track, everyone! Please stay tuned for more information. My current thoughts are that I will do a special, limited edition Kickstarter version of the book, but I have not made those final decisions yet. A lot will depend on my business plan for the spring.

If you haven't done so already and your reward is a pinup in the back of the book, please send me the appropriate information, pictures, etc.

Also, www.wolfesbay.com has been updated with an image of the cover and the "new" logo (the "old" logo was more of a working logo than anything). I will eventually replace the preview pages with the new, slightly different versions of those pages, but I haven't done that just yet.

Again, thank you so much for your patience. I am excited to be in the final stages of wrapping this thing up!

Winter Update #1

Update #13 · Dec 18, 2012 · 8 comments

Season's greetings, everyone! I hope this note finds you all happy and healthy. I wanted to touch base and let you know how everything is going!

First of all, progress on the book has really picked up. As of this writing, there are about 27 pages left to color. Which means that 50 pages are fully colored and finished! I've been working tirelessly to get this stuff wrapped up as soon as I can, and it's definitely working out. Once again, I'm so sorry I couldn't have this book finished up in time for Christmas as was my original intent, but at least my estimate of the new timeframe seems to be fairly accurate.

Also, I am on break! My first semester at Ohio State is finished, final projects are graded, and I have been able to concentrate mostly on this book for the past week or so. I will also be visiting various relatives at some point during this break, but I'll be chipping away at the book for the rest of the month.

To give you another teaser, like the last update, check out the attached graphic. The top image comes from the Christmas card my wife and I send out every year. I do a different illustration every year. The other images are ripped from various panels in the book, which I think are looking pretty darn swell.

Again, happy holidays, and I will continue to keep you all in the loop as I wrap this thing up! Get it? "Wrap?"

Autumn Update #3

Update #12 · Nov 20, 2012 · 5 comments

Hello, Kickstarter backers! I thought I should drop a line and let you know that things are moving along quite well again. My associates Mr. Fugelsang and Mr. Talbot (support them by downloading Johnny Raygun!) are helping me out effectively and efficiently, and on top of that, every last panel of the book has been drawn, inked, and scanned! So there's still quite a bit to do and a lot to rebuild, but there is both old growth and new growth, and a lot of very positive momentum right now.

Additionally, I think my colors are shaping up to be even better than they were before. I'm attaching some screenshots of various panels, so you can see for yourself. Happy Thanksgiving, and as always, thank you for your support! I'll keep you updated semi-regularly, and I'll try to post images that don't spoil the story.  :-)

Autumn Update #1

Update #10 · Sep 18, 2012 · 11 comments

Hello my friends, relatives, and other people who gave me money!

I am now nearly 5 weeks into my new job as a visiting professor of Design at Ohio State University. If you are interested in reading the little news blurb that OSU put out about it, you can find it here. I am teaching freshman Design Foundations studio, a Design Foundations lecture class, and the sophomore-level Visual Communication Design studio, which is the first of the 6 primary studio classes in the VCD major.

I promise I am still making headway on the book, but not quite as quickly as I had in the past! This teaching job is pretty time-consuming, but I have had time to finish off an awful lot of stuff. Every page I've drawn is lettered, and all but a few are fully colored. I do, however, still have about 20 pages left to draw, letter, and color. To put that in perspective, that is fewer pages than in a standard monthly comic book! I am really in the "home stretch," but that "home stretch" could easily stretch out for another couple of months. I still hope to have it done in the fall, and available to people before Christmas. I am also looking for suggestions for promoting the book. Mainly, I am looking for blogs, review sites, and various other web communities where I can submit the book for review and discussion. Any suggestions in the comments section would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone out there going to Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus? September 28-29-30, in Columbus, OH. I plan to be there with a friend, but not as an exhibitor -- just as a spectator.

Again, thanks for your patience and I will get this product out to you soon!
