Update #3: Solar water heater panels installed!

Posted on February 8

We hope you are having a good winter! It certainly has not been a winter wonderland but it has made it much easier to get around.

We just want to touch base and let you know that the solar water heater panels are installed! They are mounted on a wooden stand that volunteers from Johnson and Wales University built with help from our friend Fabio. The stand was constructed on a cold December Saturday but our crew toughed it out. We mounted the stand on top of the south facing hillside behind the aquaponics dome to receive the most sunlight during the day. You can check out specifications of the solar water heater panels here http://www.teladaq.com/heliatos/ds/sw37Datasheet.pdf.

We will check in again and let you know how the panels perform. Thank you again for giving us the capacity to get this job done right! We would also like to thank our many community volunteers from Johnson and Wales, Galego Court, and Pawtucket.

Update #2: We made it! Thank you!

Posted on November 14, 2011

To our kind supporters,

We made it! And we had 5 days to spare, incredible! Thank you! This has been such a rewarding experience, thank you for being part of it! We are so happy that our plants and fishies will be warm for the winter.

The build process for the heating systems are coming up shortly and we will keep you in the know. We will also send you a backer reward update soon.

We are happy to report that our first day at Farm Fresh's Wintertime Farmers Market at the Hope Artiste Village went very well yesterday! We will be vending next Saturday, November 19th and, starting in December,  we will be vending the first and second Saturday of the month. Stop by and try our delicious "Far Out" greens mix! Here is the market website: http://www.farmfresh.org/food/farmersmarkets_details.php?market=29

Hope everyone is well and thanks again for your awesome support!

All the best,

Update #1: Thank you to everyone who has supported us!

Posted on October 31, 2011

Thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far, we truly appreciate it. Tomorrow will mark 15 more days! Please help spread the word and if you haven't yet donated, please consider it! Even a small amount makes a difference. Our domes are doing a good job right now keeping the fishies and plants warm but the snow this past weekend was a reminder of the winter to come. Take a look at new photos inside the domes. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.193648337351392.47500.100001186801216&type=1 If you would like to visit our garden, we welcome you. Please email ask@newurbanfarmers.org to set up a time. Thank you thank you thank you...Enjoy today's festivities.

Warmly,

The New Urban Farmers

New Urban Farmers work to increase healthy food access and nurture minds in the cities of Pawtucket, Central Falls and surrounding areas by eliminating barriers to healthy food and empowering low-income individuals, families, and at-risk-youth with education and collaboration. Through a small system of satellite farms within the city, not only can we grow food but we can rebuild our community. Growing minds is our job and what grows from there is limitless! It is our belief that the community that grows together - GROWS together!
