Which is more important – preserving the world economy or curing a fatal disease? A daring new drama at the New York Fringe Festival.
The Journey Company and Wild Card Productions have teamed up again to present VACUUM at the historic Cherry Lane Theatre for the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival. This is our third production in a row for FringeNYC, following our successes with RUNNING and HAPPY WORST DAY EVER.
Arlene Hutton's new play VACUUM is the story of Grayson Campbell, an idealistic doctor and brilliant research scientist who invents a process that shrinks the space within atoms -- a medical break- thru that opens a Pandora's box of possibilities. As desert fog sets in around an exclusive and secluded resort hotel, right-wing billionaire and puppet master Jonathan Hemminger uses Campbell's brain-damaged wife Amelia as a pawn in a strategic maneuver aimed at forcing him into selling the rights to his process.
During its creation, VACUUM was workshopped at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Greenville Centre Stage, the New Harmony Project and HERE’s Autumn Artists’ Lodge. The play was chosen for the Northern Writes Festival, where it was called “devious and heartbreaking,” and was a 2010 finalist for the Hangar Theatre and a semi-finalist for Seven Devils and the O’Neill Theatre Conference.
We've assembled a great team this year! Directed by Chris Goutman, the cast features Polly Adams, David Arrow, Dana Brooke, Lynne Halliday, Katie Huard, and Chris Stack. Costumes are by Margarita Delgado, Sets & Lights are by Josh Smith, and Sound Design & Music are by James Kowal. J. W. Blood will stage manage.
