Renovation of a historic California barn to be a workshop, studio and museum dedicated to creative, non-traditional yarn making.
Pluckyfluff founder Lexi Boeger, innovator of the non-traditional, creativity-driven genre of hand-spinning often called 'art yarn', seeks to fund the restoration of a California gold rush era barn for use as a destination yarn-making venue. The craft of hand-spinning has undergone a revolution in recent years. A craft that has essentially remained unchanged for centuries is undergoing dramatic growth due to a widespread interest in yarn-making as a mode of creative expression and exploration. Pluckyfluff travels around the world teaching workshops in creative hand-spinning but there is a need for an established, destination venue that spinners can come to at anytime to learn and explore new ideas, to discover unusual fibers and materials, to see first hand some of the best examples of handspun yarn and the art produced from them.
Pluckyfluff operates on a Philosophy of shared knowledge. Of innovating, creating and offering information to fellow craftsmen who push the ideas even further, building our knowledge as a community and promoting a shared craft. The Headquarters would be a gathering point for the exchange of ideas, skills and inspiration. One of the foundational functions of the venue will be to become a space that spinners are welcomed to come and use at will. There will be material, equipment (the AURA wheel by Majacraft and drum carding station), and workspace for spinners to utilize. It will exist as a pay-what-you-can facility. Instead of use-fees spinners can give what they can afford. Sure, money is helpful to keep things running, but if someone can't pay they are asked to bring whatever they can; extra fiber for the studio, odds and ends material or equipment, snacks for the day, or maybe just some help with a broom or dust rag! It is the goal of The Pluckyfluff Headquarters to provide an opportunity for everyone to experience yarn making in a supportive, energetic and inspiring way.

Also housed within the Pluckyfluff Headquarters will be a collection of some of the best examples of handspun yarn and the art produced from them. Of note will be The Giant Skein which is the world's largest skein of all handspun yarn. Created for an art show in Lillehammer, Norway in 2010, Pluckyfluff received donations of one-of-a-kind yarns made from spinners around the globe. The individual yarns were connected forming one continuous strand that, once skeined, was 95 feet in circumference and totaled 10.5 miles of yarn! This work is the physical representation of our spinning community as a whole. The skein is composed of traditionally spun two-ply, first attempt singles, outrageous art yarn, children's drop-spindle yarns and every other conceivable form. Each yarn within it is as unique as the spinners who made them, yet the skein transforms into it's own complete whole. The Giant Skein is not complete, however. As the community of hand-spinners grows and changes, so should the skein. To this end, the Giant Skein will be brought back from Norway to be installed in the Pluckyfluff Headquarters in such a way that visiting spinners can bring a yarn of their own to bind to the last yarn added, becoming an extension of the whole.

The Building that will be renovated has it's own engaging history. The oldest structure on the historic gold-rush homestead that is now home to Boeger Winery, it has authenticity and heart but needs some careful work. Originally a sherry distillery, this 1850's building will be renovated in a historically sensitive way. It is fitting that this building will be both new and efficient while at the same time historically preserved. As the craft of hand-spinning is based firmly in tradition and history while simultaneously being created anew. This theme of 'old and new', 'tradition and innovation' is inherent in the surroundings here. The winery itself produces unusual and cutting edge wines from inside an 1872 cellar. Directly across from the proposed spinning studio is a working blacksmith shop, producing new art and craft using the tools and methods of the past. To have a workshop celebrating the ancient craft of spinning while simultaneously pushing it's boundaries will fit right in here. This property is both historic haven and proud promoter of creativity and origination.

Signed and CUSTOM COVERED second edition (paperback) of 'Intertwined'. If you don't know the story...the publisher re-designed the cover and didn't run it by me. It's not only not my yarn on the cover, but it's my ex's! Since the publisher refused to take all 6000 out into the atlantic and dump them, iv'e decided to re-do as many as I can get my hands on. What's this mean for you? A really artistic (probably funky) collaged and graffiti'd book. All the content is the same though!
