We are a two-piece indie rock band asking for financial help in recording our new record and putting a down payment on a new van.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
We've been working on our new record since the release of our last LP in 2008 (Their Dreams Are Dead, But Ours Is The Golden Ghost!). The writing is complete and we're polishing up the songs before hitting the studio. Since we don't have a label backing us, we're funding the recording, mixing and mastering all by ourselves... and, damn, it's expensive! Additionally, the minivan we bought to tour in five years ago officially bit the dust this year, right after it was paid off with a huge majority of our savings! RIP Cruz Control :(
THE PLAN
After years of touring in a minivan and growing as a band, we decided that it would be best to step it up and purchase a bigger van. We also thought it would be best to invest in a newer model van that won't have as many problems as our last vehicle which was a used later model. New van = new parts = less service = less headaches.
Also, a bigger van means more room to fit friends and bands on tour! The minivan was great for the two of us, but we could never fit another person with all of our equipment, merchandise and personal belongings. We can definitely use more help on tour, so with extra room, we can now take that help!
For recording, we are looking to work with a studio close to home. This way we can live and cook at home which will keep our recording budget low and support a local business.
THE FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN
We have spoken to a local dealership that we are super comfortable with. They helped us financially plan the van we want, and in order to afford the monthly payments, we would need to put down an initial payment of $3,000.00. That way we can afford the van on and off tour.
As for recording expenses, we are using the last record we self-released as our budget template. We estimate that it will cost approximately $2,500.00 for studio time, mixing, and mastering.
WHAT IF WE GO OVER THE FUNDING LIMIT?
If we go over the limit that we set, we will use the funds to go towards the Kickstarter fees, insurance for the van, and for a larger down payment to reduce our monthly payments. It will also go towards the manufacturing of the record if we release it ourselves.

Here's the tank top design done by the lovely Greg Christman! This will be available in either black or white (your choice!) and printed in "golden ghost yellow" ink!!!
LIMITED "GOLDEN GHOST" LP - The artwork will remain the same for this, but the color theme will be different. We decided to with a Jay-Z "All Black Everything" colorway for Kickstarter- black vinyl, black labels, black paper with different shades of black ink for the illustration- the only thing that will not be black will be everything printed in gold on the original artwork (ghost, band name, song titles). This will be limited to the amount of people who pledge for this reward. All covers will be hand numbered and will be identified as the "Kickstarter pressing."
