About this project

Note: The clip you are about to view after the "behind the scenes" footage is in 2D to comply with your computer monitor's requirements. The film was shot in 3D and the finished product will be in both a 2D and 3D version. We are still in the process of syncing our sound. But the clip will give you a strong idea of the quality of our film.

Director: Jenny Januszewski

Cinematographer: Samuel Kim

Editor: Ron Shaw

A couple people asked me, "Why 3D? I hate 3D." Well, that's exactly why we chose to do it in stereoscopic 3D. If you don't like something, then try to make it better. That's why we made sure not to have anything in the film annoyingly fly out at the audience. I also get asked, "Why couldn't it be told in 2D?" Actually, it could. However, it's told differently in 3D. Just like a painting is different with acrylics vs. oil. The texture and nuances lend itself to the story in different ways. While we're all very familiar with the "wow" factor of 3D. For this film, we're using 3D in a more subtle way. Unlike most 3D films, which are comedy, children's/animated, or action, The Shadower is a beautiful dramatic short film that uses 3D's attributes to push the story forward. We want to use 3D in a way that helps connect the audience to the character's journey on a more visceral level.

Here's a bit about the story: I don't want to give too much away, but The Shadower is a 3D short film that follows that last week of a man's life---the week he decided to live life and participate. It's a narrative film that boarders on being an art or experimental piece.

I keep getting asked the question, "If I donate money, what's the payoff? It's film investing, isn't it?" I want to address this question because it is a very important one. Most things considered "film investing" require a large amount of money (e.g. hundreds of thousands or even millions) yet have a VERY low rate of return. We're not asking for investors, we're asking for donations...donations that have a guaranteed payoff that is more meaningful than money.

The payoff for donating to our film's finishing costs are to help keep independent filmmakers in the game; to promote higher standards for 3D filming and tv programming because 3D is coming at us like HDTV did and we have no choice;  to support a VERY diverse cast and crew who offer different voices to the arts (e.g. Asian, Caucasian, African-American, Latino, bi-racial, etc); because you are sick of seeing things like remakes of 1980's films and you want to at least try to get better things out there to see; because you remember what artists are and that not everyone in film is here for fame...film is also a vehicle for artists to push society forward through example. Plus, you get the Kickstarter rewards that correspond to your donation. :)

Thanks for stopping by our page and for supporting independent filmmaking!

Note: ***The amount we set as our goal is the very base amount we need to get our film into post production. The more we raise, the more beautiful nuances we can add to the film.

If there were a star up in the sky with your name on it, I'd name it after you. Thanks for lovin' us. I'm gonna have to put your name in the end credits under "Special Thanks To..."---it's like being in the VIP seats at a game...less people around you. PLUS, you'll get a call from the director so we can thank you profusely. Pile THAT on all the goodness that's listed up above.

All that money and no film experience??? You deserve to be in pictures! For that, we're gonna give you all the goodness listed above and give you the title of Associate Producer in the film credits and on our IMDB credit page. Yeah, that's right, drag out your laptop every time your friends are around, draw up our IMDB page, and point at your name. You're probably wondering how you can donate $8k when our goal is less than that. Have someone offer you more than you are hoping for and then revisit that thought. But, wow...If Pluto were a planet, I'd try to give it to you. Since it's not, we're going to give you all the things listed above PLUS...YOUR NAME WILL BE MENTIONED IN ANY AWARDS SPEECH RELATED TO THIS FILM SHOULD WE WIN ANY FESTIVALS OR COMPETITIONS. Yeah, remember those famous reward speeches where the recipient accidentally forgets their own spouse's name? Your name will not be forgotten. In fact, if you donate that, the director will get on a plane, fly to a major city near you for that dinner you get---must be within the contiguous United States. Disclaimer: For this prize, we will only mention your real, legal name in speeches. If you were so unfortunate as to have your momma name you after a historically notorious person or anything else that would be offensive towards large groups, it's not happening...But thank you for the donation.

Hi!

I came to America from the Vietnam War as part of Operation Babylift, grew up on a farm raised Polish, and now here I am making movies! For the last 15 or so years, I've lived in major cities in America (e.g. Chicago, NYC, and Los Angeles) working as a stage actor, writer, and director. I've been in LA for just two years now and this is the fifth project I'm directing. In 2010 and 2011, I also had feature length screenplays as Official Selections at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. I've also been a professional photographer since I can remember having pieces shown at as large of venues as The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Needless to say, I'm a storyteller.

As a kid, I actually never liked watching 3D. After the novelty wore off, my eyes would start to hurt. I became became more fascinated in it when I was among only 20 emerging directors in America invited to pitch a 3D project at a major network. I thought, "Huh, it's a great opportunity but I'm not into 3D." Then...I fell absolutely head over heels with the challenge to make what is usually considered a gimmick into a solid genre and respected art form. Plus, when you do it right...it doesn't hurt the eyes.

Yeah, I know you're going to google me, so I added links to both my directing and photography websites. Please note that my IMDB page is not up to date. Projects that are currently in pre and post production are not listed.
