About this project

THE PROJECT:

Help us create an original a cappella musical, inspired by true stories from our family history, to perform at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in August, 2011.  Tight vocal harmonies fill this timeless story about four brothers trying to prove themselves in World War II.  Set entirely within the space of a WWII Patrol Bomber, HERO is filled with daring adventure, senseless loss, unbelievable luck, and a spirit of family and camaraderie.

With an original script by  playwright/director Tyler Olsen and a brand new score by award-winning composer Nicholas Jacobson Larson, and featuring a cast of four real-life brothers, HERO is guaranteed to be a theatrical event unlike any you've ever seen. Part comedy, part tragedy, all adventure, HERO promises to be an awesome experience for young and old alike.

THE PLAN:

We're currently in the midst of writing and creating HERO, as well as doing loads of research into World War II and its battles, visiting and touring retired military aircraft, and interviewing veterans of the war, some of whom who were flight crews of PBY Catalinas- one of the most versatile and influential aircrafts ever flown.  Our timeline for the piece is as follows:

April-May 2011:  Music and script creation and revision.

June 2011:  Music rehearsals begin via electronic communication a la Skype and Google voice.

July 2011:  Acting rehearsals begin

August 4-14:  HERO plays at the Minnesota Fringe

THE MONEY:

We want to raise $3200 to cover:

Music Composition:  $800

Set Design & Construction:  $650

Costumes:  $300

Travel:  $300

Advertising:  $300

Artist Fees:  $325

Musical Direction:  $250

Fringe Festival Fees:  $425

Notice that there isn't one cent of money in there for us as actors!  That's because we care a lot about this project, think the stories and people in them are worth commemorating and celebrating, and also because we love singing, acting, and playing together.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!  Stay tuned for updates!
